I purchased a GE Zurich warrantee in May 2000, for a Kobe range hood and it cost me $85.

The warrantee is supposed to cover 100% of all repair bills, i.e., no deductible. My range hood broke in October 2001, and I contacted GE Zurich in mid November and spoke to one of their customer relationship people.

She took down my information and was to have a service person contact me within three days. I never received such a call after a week so again I called GE Zurich and spoke to another representative who was unable to retrieve any record of my earlier call.

I went through the whole thing again and nobody called me back regarding service for my Kobe Range hood. I called two more times and someone called me back telling me that GE Zurich is unable to locate a service person that repairs Kobe range hoods and that GE Zurich will reimburse me if I locate someone myself and have the work done.

They gave me a case file# and told me the service repair bill could not exceed $250 without further approval. I had my range repaired in mid December 2001 and called GE Zurich for reimbursement.

Mind you, when you call their 800 number, you will have to waite on hold between 15 and 40 minutes. Finally, I spoke with a representative who instructed me to fax a copy of my bill along with my contract information and that a check will follow no later than two weeks.

I followed her instructions and still no check has arrived nearly three weeks later. I have called several times but have given up after waiting on hold more than 40 minutes.

Today, 1/14/02, I spoke with a representative that said they have no records of my repair claim and for me to fax it again and someone (name I will not disclose) will call me back this morning.

I faxed the information again and still have not received a phone call. My wife called and was told it takes up to 30 days to be reimbursed. Another problem with this company is that their hours are 8 am - 6pm east coast time but they have their phone system set up so people on the west coast cannot call until 11 am west coast time (2:00 pm EST) because they say they cannot reach service technicians on the west coast before 11am EST.

Yet, they close their offices at 6:00pm EST (3pm PST)which leaves only a four hour window for west coast folks to try and reach them. Nobody EVER returns your phone call either and they do not give you the names or numbers for people in their headquarters.

They still have no record of my service bill and I guess I am going to write this on off as a bad experience. My recommendation is to NEVER buy one of their service contracts.
