I've been with Geico insurance for about  a year and upon my policy coming to an end on 11/5/09 they told me when I renew my policy the premium would go down because of some violations coming off.  I have 1 superchargable offense that they can charge me for.  But my main vehicle with full coverage was in-operable due to no state inspection and also a shot transmission.  I left my truck at the dealer since they said it was going to take 2-3 weeks to fix.  I decided to not renew my policy till then.  I called geico to pay off my $64 dollar balance and they asked if I wanted to renew and I explained that I dont have a car right now becuase its being fixed and I would renew in a couple of weeks, they ran my info, not my drivers license and said I would gofrom paying $562 for 2 cars for 6 months to paying $911 for 6 months.  When I asked how they can do that they said well you let your insurance lapse and I explained that I dont have to have insurance when I dont have a car and therefore Im not paying an extra $300 because I dont want to carry insurance especially since I spoke to the dmv and they said Im not required to insure a car Im not driving on the road.  Also they said they found a violation on my record of loaning my license to another driver and I was alway's wondering how that was possible because I've never given my license to anyone else and certainly I would know about this.  But Geico insists that they are giving me the best rate even know I am no longer required to carry sr22, and other violations are set to come off.  Also Im supposed to get a military, and multi car discount so answer me this how can they rip me off $300+  They lie and will cheat you.  Do not insure with geico save yourself the hassle.  I will be contacting my attorney I thnk the federal trade commission should step in so they cant do that to others.

Insurance Increase

AUTHOR: Anonymous - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, November 22, 2009

I do not work for the gecko, let me get that out in the open.

If you do not have insurance, even for one day, your insurance will increase when you get a new policy.
The DMV was correct, you don't have to have insurance on a vehicle you aren't driving. But that is if you tell them you aren't going to be driving it and follow whatever procedure they have for deregistering your car due to it not being operable. Otherwise, if a car is registered to you, by law you are required to have insurance on it.
All rates and policies are approved by your Dept of Insurance.
