I got into a car accident on 1/6/17. On 1/9/17 Geico called me to do my phone interview about the accident. Once the interview was complete I was asked if I had any other questions at which point I mentioned that they had the wrong year for my car. My car is a 2011 Camry not a 2010 Camry...so she did some digging and we found out they had my mom’s cars VIN (the 2010 Camry) listed on the policy, not mine (clerical error). We corrected the information I asked is this going to affect my coverage in any way and I was told no. Later that afternoon they called me saying the claim is on hold because they have to do an investigation into the difference in VIN numbers and it could take up to two weeks. In the meantime, they determine my car is totaled. So I have no car, can't even pay for it myself to be fixed. Since they are doing their “investigation”, I am not even covered to get a rental car. I called about a week ago to check on the status and see if I could help by providing documentation from my mom’s insurance company that her car was in fact insured (by State Farm) at the time of my accident, she told me “no, every company has their own process in these matters and we have to follow our process”. We are talking about a clerical error. I mentioned that point to the Geico rep at one point and she said "think if someone made a health insurance claim and had the wrong social, it would hold up the claims process and may just be denied". Little does she know I work for a healthcare provider and work with health insurance companies all day, every day. If someone member ID or social was incorrect it would simply be corrected and everything could then move forward in being processed, it certainly would not result in a denial of the claim.

It has been 17 days and still no word. I called this morning and was told "No news at this time. It's a waiting game". Geico does not seem to care that I am left in the lurch every single day to figure out transportation for my 1-year-old to go to day care and how I have to get to work. I am left "in the waiting game" without knowing what kind of car I can afford because their "investigation" is taking several weeks. The difference in coverage in the two cars is less than $5 over a 6-month period. THAT'S LESS THAN $1 A MONTH! They were paid 6 months in advance for the cars coverage. I am incredibly disappointed in Geico’s service at this point. It certainly does not take two weeks to tell someone if they will get a check from their own insurance company or not. I believe they are trying to make sure it isn’t any kind of attempt of fraud. How can it be fraud when I pointed the mistake out and the VIN number they had was for a car in a DIFFERENT STATE that was in fact insured at the time of the accident. Now, I have no choice but to keep playing “the waiting game”.
