After five years with Allstate, I switched to Geico for a lower premium. Their quote included a student discount just like the one I had been receiving under Allstate since I was in high school. I am now a graduate student in college, and Geico claims that nine credit hours of graduate-level coursework does not make me a full-time student, so I am ineligible for the discount. It's funny that they didn't bother mentioning that when I told them that I'm a graduate student during the quoting process, since there are almost no graduate students who take more than three courses a semester.
Now I'm paying more than I did under Allstate because my friendly Geico agent wasn't upfront about their discount rules. Thanks, Geico.

Even if they give you the discount. I wouldn't risk something so important to incompetent b***s. What if they messed up your claim? If this is an indication of things to come with this company, I'd switch fast.

9 Units Is Considered Full Time For Graduate Students

You are correct in that you are entitled to the good student discount. For graduate students, 9 units is considered full time. You need to call and speak to a supervisor, manager, or call corporate to complain so they can fix this mistake. Many service counselors are unaware of this do to the poor training there.
