I went through GEICO in Oct 2002 for car insurance. They were very reasonable initially.

In Nov 2002 my 20 year old nephew (who lived with me at the time) got a license and I insured him on one of my 2 cars. My rates went up approximately $600, which I expected.

In Jan 2003, my 18 yr old son got his license and I purchased a used car for him (4 door, not sporty). My insurance went up to $1700 for 6 months. I thought it was high, but continued with GEICO.

In March 2003, my nephew returned to MI and had his NC license changed to MI. My 6 month policy was over 1 April. I called to have him removed from my policy. They refused. I provided them information and proof that he was no longer living with me in NC, but they still refused.

I had already paid over half of my $1700 premium at that time for my new policy. I told them I wanted my policy cancelled effective 2 May 2003 and I wanted a refund of my premium minus the month of course that I had the insurance. They put in my cancellation, but I went to my account online the next day and they had increased my premium to $2300. They told me my nephew was not included in the premium. I received less than $300 of my $901 that I had already paid on my policy for 1 month of coverage.

I have had a letter sent to them from my base legal, but they have ignored it.

I am Active Duty military. I don't make the big bucks! Where do they think an average person can afford to pay them $600 a month for insurance!

I will be going to small claims to sue them for the $300 that they still owe me and court costs. I also had to jump through hoops and come up with another $300 to get a new policy prior to the Geico one expiring.

Needless to say, GEICO ripped me off!

I would have posted this earlier had I known about this site!
