GE Money did not make a very good effort to inform account holders of the potential for identity theft and did not publicy announce it until Jan 08. 650,000 customer records were compromised.

They claim to have found the missing tape - and also claim it was not accessed, however GEMB likes to believe its customers are stupid. There are far too many people who would know how to access the data without ever leaving a trace.
