Generac Power Systems, Inc. Beware of Generac Products Waukesha Wisconsin

Six months ago, I noticed my Generac "Guardian" generator leaking oil. I contacted a local dealership which sent out a technician. The technician said the oil leaks were from the engine crankshaft seals. He also said that Generac had a problem with these seals for units manufactured when mine was and had since redesigned the seals. He said the new seals seem to be holding up well.

My generator is 7 years old and the engine has run a total of 70 hours during that time period. The generac warranty is for 2000 hours or 3 years. Obviously, my unit is older than the calendar warranty period, but the engine has only run 70 hours of the 2000 hour warranty period. Since crankshaft seals wear as a result of rpm's, I felt that Generac should have cover the cost of replacing these seals(or at least a portion of the cost). They knew the seals were a problem, since they redesigned them.

I contacted Generac by telephone and e-mail explaining the problem. After my second email, they would not even respond. The cost of seal replacment is going to be $700 - $800(one third of the new cost of the unit) and Generac refuses to pay any of this cost.

I would not buy any Generac product as they do not stand behind their products.
