Very long story here. About three years ago, I had credit cards troubles, contacted CareOne Credit Counseling. Had awful problems getting all accounts set up and paid on time, if at all. One account was not paid for three months, they were taking the money, just weren't sending it to Citibank. I never did find out where that money had gone. They have ignored numerous requests for records on the account.

At some time (I was never notified) the acccount was changed (sold?) to Genesis Financial Solutions, account screw-ups again, accounts just stopped being paid and different amounts were being taken from my account without explaination. Again no respsonse to requests for records. I spent many hours with the credit card companies getting this straightened out. I thought this was what Genesis was supposed to do.

About 2 years ago, I came into some money and paid off all credit card accounts but one. I called Genesis to do this and thought all was paid. I did get statements from several cards with money owing. I paid them and was glad that just one card was still with Genesis. I only stayed to keep the interest rate down. Their service had never been anything but horrible.

At the time I paid off the cards a proposal was to be sent to Citibank on the remaining account for the amount of $125.00 monthly. Or so I thought. Genesis began to take this amount from my account every month. This amount showed on my Citbank statement and I assusmed that everything was going well.

About four months ago, I received a letter from Citibank stating that I had not been making the minimum required payment per my credit counseling agreement of $172.00. This was the first I had heard of this. I contacted Genesis, they said that they would send a new proposal and continued to take the $125.00 from my checking account.

The next month I received the same letter from Citibank saying I was in breach of my agreement. I again contacted Genesis, I was told the same thing as before, another proposal would be sent. They again took $125.00 from my checking account.

I did try to contact Citibank at this point, they would only refer me back to Genesis.

Last month I received a letter from Citibank that my agreement with Genesis hAD been terminated and would lose all benefits of mt credit counseling agreement.

I called Gensis again. They said they had been trying to contact me by phone for a month, I can't swear this is a lie, I'm not always home. I asked why they did not try to contact me by mail. They said they had sent a letter, I had at this time not received any letter. I did finally receive the letter, postmarked after I had been terminated by Citibank.

Anyway they said I'd have to pay the $172.00, if I could afford it or not. When I asked about other solutions, they became threatening. It was put to me as being that or nothing. I was told that I could not switch credit counseling agencies, or just make the payments on my own (which would have been less by Citibank's statements).

I called Citibank on a number from the back of a credit card. I was told that I could continue to make these payments on my own. They also said that my interest rate should not raise if I continue to make paymets in a timely maner. Genesis said differently.

I wonder if the proposal for $125.00 was ever made two years ago. I wonder if any proposals have been made in the last four months. I wonder why they did not contact me in a timely manner. I wonder why I was threatened. I wonder if there is anyway to get my records from this company.

Genesis Financial Solutions vs Genesis Financial Management, Inc.

AUTHOR: Genesis - ()

I wanted to make sure the Genesis Financial Solutions does not get confused with Genesis Financial Management, Inc. which is a great credit counseling agency.

Thanks for your input

You seem rather well informed about the company, thanks for bring my complaint up to the top of the list again.

As I stated before I have paid off the Citcards, if you had read carefully you would know that the second card I spoke of was not involved in the Care One mess. Being as informed as you are, you would also know that any card on the credit counseling service cannot be used. So there was no way I could have used the card, it would have been rejected.

My situation is resolved as I stated before.

Thank you also for correcting the address, I'm sure it will be a great help to anyone else who should check this report.

CareOne program is great, some of the com panoies that use them, not so great

I am not how everything happened to you, but I have nothing but good things to say about CareOne. I am sorry that they sold your information, but there are a varirty of companies using the CareOne Model. Mine is handled through American Financial Solutions, a CareOne Service Provider. I will say the only problem I had was with the Sears Card (owned by Citibank) because they wanted $2.00 more a month and by the time they told CareOne the payment they wanted it had already been taken out of my account. The next month (the 2nd month) in the program everything was been fine. I can login onto the CareOne site and still view my account at careonecredit.com, even if it is handled by American Financial Solutions.

My credit score has gone up well ove 150 points since being in the program. I have been involved with it since July 2004.

You said Citibank said you were in breach of payment, but I do have one question. You still didn't use the other cards, did you? Even though they were paid off you weren't suppose to use them, if you did, until all cards completed the program. The reason I know this is I did a lot of checking on things before I bought a car to make sure that wouldn't affect my program. I would definately do something about Genesis, and contact CareOne and let them know what a company is doing to their name.

Before I went with this company I did a lot of research, and I mean a lot, about 3 months worth to be exact. I hope things get worked out for you. Best of luck!

This is the contact for CareOne not Genesis.

Thanx you

Thanks for your response.

I will look into some of the things you suggested. It does seem that these folks are bad news.

They may also be liars. Since I filed the report I received a very nice letter from Genesis saying I could get back on the program any time I desired, in a much nicer tone than the phone calls.

Also, they didn't mess up my credit as much as they said they did, I was able to tranfer my balance away from Citibank, on a decent percentage credit card that they said I wouldn't be able to obtain. So I'm persoanally in pretty good shape.

I do agree that this com-pnay and the credit counseling industry is predatory and something does need to be done. I'm a little wary of giving out my email on such a public site though. I'm sure you understand. If the owners of this site would allow us to privately exchange emails I would be interested in corresponding with you.

Thanks Again.

In response to G enesis Financial Solutions

AUTHOR: Sherry - (U.S.A.)

Hi
Sorry for all the stress and ripoff Genesis
has been doing to you!! First I would write a
certified letter to Citibank and ask for the copies of all correspondance from Genesis to Citi.

Do the same thing to Genesis. Also go to your bank where the money has been withdrwn and cancel
any further type of actions until this gets cleared up. Under the FCRA fair credit reporting act you have plenty of rights and you must act quickly to handle this before it goes bad.

Send all letters certified return receipt and
make sure you go to law library and have the libraian help you find USC 1600 but the FCRA and FDCPA start around 1681 through 1692.

As for the awful Genesis I have a federal lawsuit started against them here in Washington state.

They and Discover and Plaza Associates and Mitchell N. Kay are all going to find out what a citizen can and will do when fraud has been waged for an outrageous 6 years.

I want to help you. I feel you can do this without an attorney possibly. You could sue
genesis by yourself!! If they never contacted you
and so forth they are in big trouble. Did you ever sign anything with them ? How did you become involved ? I reread your story sound like you have a serious good case against both of the parties!

This CreditOne and Genesis both can be sued and
it only takes a small amount of time thoughtfulness and research in the legal area.
I said I will help you. Now I am unsure if the editor here will let you and I have each others' email adress but I would hope he /she will
because I seriously want to help anyone who has been jerked around by these greed machines.

I do not want any money period. I would guide you in what to look for specifically but wihtout seeing your papers I do not know where to start you at except the basics I already wrote.

Make a letter to all credit bureaus and annouce you are disputing any further debt collections from Citi. I can say from a past Radioshack accounthese jerks at Citi are awful. They got the Northland group after me and they hounded me for 9 motnhs and I did not owe them one dime!
Nonstop calls and I finanlly had to report them and Northland to the washington attorney general.

They stopped and deleted the bogus blotch from my credit report. You too must contact your local attorney general consumer affair division and give them coppies of the letters and so forth and maybe it will stop some of your issues.

But most of all if I were you and depending on
how you feel about this from a leagl point of view I really recommend to consider suiing Genesis

These guys at Genesis suck I got a story about them form the oregon Biz journal and they are huge and they got that way from forcing people to pay bogus debt etc.

Go to google and type in their name.
Bizjournal for oregon the stories on them from google click on them. Read how the ceo does business.

Genesis never contacted me like in your case instead they just started by turning me over to NewYork Plaza Associates and then when I did not
jump when they wanted they began to use Mitchell N.Kay to try to scare me. When that failed they
smail tried to get Northland Group after me.

But since Northland Group just got slapped by my
state attorney general they refused to contact me. Then I said surprise and filed against
them and Discover who was the main party involved in this fraud case. I bet they are all wishing right now they would have followed the law.

Marshalls knocking with a summons man I wish I could seen their faces. But I will in court.

Editor at ripoff please let me if this person wants my help to do so.

My best wishes to you.
sherry
