I purchase a Genie Excelerator Garage door Opener Dec 2004 and on Dec 26, 2008 the garage door opener would not completely close. Upon investigate the Screw drive in the rail system broke in half. I called genie customer service and warranty and described the problem and Genie REFUSED to warranty the parts. The Genie Excelerator comes with a lifetime manufacturer parts warranty. I performed the door balance test as instructed by the genie rep and the garage door passed the test. I have called Genie twice with the same result... Genie refuses to replace the part or send a service dealer to review the part in the installed state. I would expect Genie to honor the warranty stated on the products when purchased.

You will not get the unit fixed the way you think. There is a lifetime warranty on the unit. You have to show proof of purchase which is a receipt everytime you want warranty. Genie will not send anyone out to your house to look the unit over. *** remember this *** If your screw drive breaks, they will not honor it. Their reasoning is that it is steel and how can steel break. I used to do the warranty on their units and I was told to say that. I know it is wrong. If you want it fixed, write a letter to Molly Rodgers, 22790 Lake Park Blvd. Alliance, OH 44601, and say that you are going to report it to the better business bureau. This may work but I know that if you submit it to the bureau Genie always replaces the whole unit at their cost. Just thought you would like to know.
