The steel fascia on my remolded home was installed in 1998 and I noticed that the paint on it blistering and peeling in June 2009.

Notified the installing contractor, who inturn, referred me to supplier of product, Norandex. Norandex told me to contact the manufacture, Gentek, and provided thier telephone number.

Claim filed with Gentek on October 12, 2010 by telephone.  I subsequently received Gentek's claim form, completed same and mailed it to them on December 13, 2010.  Claim included photographs, letter from Norandex confirming that the steel fascia was a Gentek product, paint samples of defective fascia and receipt for same product one year later as the installing contractor could not locate the original receipt for the purchase of product for home.

Claim was denied by Gentek on February 21, 2011 stating the supporting documentation did not satisfy their requirement for proof of purchase.

Gentek is a major manufacture and supplier of home siding and related products and should be held responsible for their actions.

Class Action

Class action lawsuit settled in favor of purchasers of Gentek siding. Cash and all warranty ended. Elect replacement with upgraded product and warranty remains in force. I selected replacement and contractor has been here to give estimate to Gentek. Estimates at about $30-35 thousand.

couple of questions

First, do you have your original warranty paperwork? It clearly states on gentek's website that a copy of the original warranty is what you use for proof of purchase. Was this filled out and filed with gentek when the fascia was installed? If the contractor did not fill out the warranty paperwork and file it then you have no warranty. From what you have said, you can only prove its their product but you have no proof when it was purchased or installed ie: a reciept or properly filled out warranty card. This company is not ripping you off, they need you to prove that you actually purchased it. Of course, you would probably complain when you got your warranty money. With this being 13 years later, your warranty only covers 20% of the labor and materials to fix it.
