They steal your money.  They stole $40 in 'fees' off a $50 gift card I have, soon to be $45 if I don't run out and use the card tomorrow.  I just went to use the card after a year and a half (not too unreasonable, right?) and discovered there's a whopping $10 left on the $50 card. Apparently they dock a ridiculous $4.95 off the card for every month after one year that it isn't used.

Yes, it's in the "agreement" that my BROTHER signed when he purchased the card for me for my birthday, but it's not like I actually received this agreement or had a chance to read it.  I called customer service and they told me that I should have seen this while reading the agreement at the time of purchase... since I obviously purchased a gift card for myself.

I also couldn't activate the card initially because it required a pass code?? One that wasn't anywhere on the card or what I received from my brother (guess he forgot about it...) and could only be emailed to the card purchaser.  As if you'd want to let the card purchaser know that you still haven't used the gift card they gave you 10 months ago.  Tried to do that and I guess they had the wrong email for my brother, couldn't get the code.  So I forgot about the card for a few months and just now discovered that you can activate it online without the code, only to find that there's almost nothing left on it.

No, this is not an illegal activity, but you should not have to worry about when you spend your money, since it's YOUR money, after all... RIPOFF.  Giftcards.com, feel free to contact me if you think you can remedy this situation.  I doubt you will though.  You'll just respond and say that it's legit b/c it's in the agreement, and I'm an awful consumer for not reading it.

Hello,

We'd be happy to remedy this for you...but we don't know how to reach you?  Please contact Mark at 877-944-3822 x9201 and reference this thread.

I'm sure its hard for you to believe, but it is certainly not our goal or hope that our gift card recipients don't get to use their full card value.  We'd be happy to explain to you why the inactivity fee is in place though.

The agreement you are referring to is located on the back of the piece of paper that you card was attached to, and the inactivity fee is printed on the back of the card.

Nonetheless, as mentioned we're happy to fix this issue for you.  Please contact Mark with your card number and we'll get this taken care of.

Thanks
