I know because WE lived there for over a year. We have 4 children, 3 sons (5, 4 and 1 year old) and a 10 year old daughter. After seeing a black substance at the bottom of our bedroom closet, we called management. They sent a maintenance person who promptly told us the "black substance" was NOT mold. They replaced the lower portion of the wall and we continued to live there. Months passed and all of our children started to develop breathing problems. My 4 year old son started having severe seizures that left him unconscious for nearly an hour that ended with (2) emergency room visits. We never imagined it was mold, after all the management company told us it wasn't and how foolish would it be for us not to trust the management company. [continued below]....

..... Months passed and we all became ill. After 8 months of dealing with constant illness, we demanded the property manager, ADAM BERGER re-inspect the apartment. ADAM sent in a tester who we later found was NOT qualified to conduct tests. ADAM subsequently told us the test results were NEGATIVE. Still fearing that something was going terribly wrong, we demanded to have the wall in our closet opened. When the wall was open, we all saw first hand what had been making our family sick... BLACK MOLD. The wall was INFESTED. When presented with this REAL EVIDENCE what followed was text book extortion on the part of ADAM BERGER and the entire staff at Glenn Eagles. EXTORTION... I'm using this word because they set out to seek an easy way out while putting our family through the ringer. THERE WAS AND HAS NEVER BEEN ANY CONCERN WHATSOEVER FOR THE WELLBEING OF OUR FAMILY. From the very beginning, it was all about maneuvering and protecting themselves from a law suit. WE NEVER were given the mythical NEGATIVE test Mr. Adam Berger claims. We had to move into an Extended Stay hotel with a family of 6. Needless to say this was a huge inconvenience. We did our research and found Mr. Phil Fry a nationally recognized mold remediation specialist to help educate us. Mr. Adam Berger had a "mold remediation" company we later found was NOT a mold remediation company come in to clean our apartment. On our own we hired Mr. Fry and AFTER Mr. Berger's hired help had finished the clean up and told us the apartment was "all clear"... Mr. Fry conducted his test and the results were staggering. I'm no scientist, so let me tell you simply, our apartment was "dangerous and not inhabitable." 

Once again we had (2) reports. Mr. Berger's hired help telling us all was well AGAIN... and a nationally recognized MOLD EXPERT telling us to "never live there again..."

After long email dialogues (I STILL HAVE THEM ALL AND WILLING TO SHARE) Mr. Berger and Glenn Eagles seemed to have found some sense of respect for HUMAN beings and were going to permit us to break our lease, reimburse us the cost of the hotel stay AND pay Mr. Fry for his clean up of our personal belongings. (I HAVE THIS EMAIL TOO) Mr. Fry cleaned all of our belongings and stored them wrapped in plastic in our garage. PLEASE understand this... we have 4 small children. They have NO clothes to wear. NO toys to play with. We lived in that guest house for weeks, washing and rewashing the few pairs of clothes we had as EVERYTHING else was contaminated.

Upon the completion of the clean up by Mr. Fry... what we did NOT see in the Mr. Adam Berger Glenn Eagles "offer" was a final sentence stating that they would refund our security deposit, pay us back for the hotel stay, pay us $500.00 moving expenses and pay Mr. Fry... PROVIDED that we hold them HARMLESS from ALL POTENTIAL FUTURE LEGAL OBLIGATION.

As a parent who had spent many endless nights while living in a mold infested apartment and watching my children's health deteriorate dangerously, WE REFUSED to sign that paper.

What followed is literally too much to type. Let me just say that they refused to pay Mr. Fry (Until he threatened to launch an internet, local radio and television news release about what was happening to us.)

We NEVER received reimbursement for the hotel stay NOR our security deposit. 

We endured the most bizarre, un-professional, inhumane, shady (Your words ADAM) greed driven initiative to simply push us away.

Mr. BERGER repeatedly told my wife that we "wanted something for nothing..." Imagine that would you... 

We report what we think is mold. They come and inspect. NEVER TESTING to see if it was to begin with.

We all get sick.

Ask for another inspection. Test is ordered that the Property Manager Adam Berger tells us is "NEGATIVE"... 

We push to have the wall removed... and what do you know... there is MOLD... everywhere. So we refuse to sign a bogus offer signing away future legal action... and now we want something for nothing.

In closing... live there at your own risk. And please let's not kid ourselves that ADAM BERGER was just doing his job... There was a blatant move on the part of this management company to COVER over an extremely serious potentially life threatening problem at their property with TOTAL DISREGARD for the FAMILY who lived there.

This is the powerful taking advantage of a young family with small children.

We would come to find that there have been MANY MOLD issues at that property for YEARS. I have pictures, emails to PROVE IT ALL.
