Glen Klein, owner of Sunburst Patios and Landscaping, was paid $1573.50 on 11/5/08, this being the total cost of materials plus 50% of the cost of labor as agreed per our contract details. Glen has never showed up to begin work and he is unresponsive to our requests for a refund.
Glen Klein agreed to begin work no later than 11/10/2008. On this day, his excuse for why no work began regarded an ongoing project with another client. On 11/17, Glen informed me that his other project was nearly complete and he would begin ours in a couple of days.
After several calls not returned, I was able to reach Glen on 11/21 and he informed me of his back injury that occurred while finishing his other job. During this conversation he told me the Dr. recommends 3 days bed rest and work would begin no later than 11/24. Work did not begin and we were unable to reach Glen until he returned our call on 12/1 and agreed to refund our payment by 12/5. According to Glen, he was in the hospital due to a Slipped disk and would not be able to work for us.
The next day, 12/2, he gave an estimate to my fraternity brother/co-worker Eric Allen, and agreed to begin work within 1 week. On 12/7, I received a text message from Glen stating, I am not a thief, I will make amends. On 12/8, I waited for Glen to show up at Eric's house since he was no longer returning our calls. He told me This (situation) was Not intentional and we agreed he would either begin work or refund the full amount paid by 12/17. Glen is not returning our calls, no refund was ever paid, and no work has ever began.
Additionally, we discovered the following from our research of the Better Business Bureau. Glen Klein of Sunburst Lawn & Landscaping located at 14173 NW Freeway #178 Houston, TX 77040, has a total of 4 complaint(s) about this business in the last 36 months, our standard reporting period. Of the total 4 complaint(s) closed in the last 36 months, 4 were closed in the last 12 months. These complaints concerned: 2 regarding Refund or Exchange Issues, 2 regarding Service Issues. All four complaints were closed with No response.

It has been a month since Glenn has taken a $620 advance from me. I have been able to talk to him about 3-4 times during this time. He keeps making excuses for not getting the work done. In fact, most of my story matches word to word with J_tudeski's. The same excuse - "work is almost done here, you are next in line, give me a day or two"; "the soil is wet, need to let the ground dry"; "the stones are not in yet". I am pretty sure his next excuse is going to be the back injury. As you rightly said, he does not answer his phone, does not return calls and rarely replies to emails. He is now operating under the new name Houston Custom Patios. I think he is targetting all new construction areas where people don't know many contractors. He puts his flyers out and people get sucked right into the trap. I am going to let my entire community know about this guy and make sure nobody ever calls him for business. I wish I had read this report before. I only trusted him because he showed me pictures of my neighbors patio and we really liked the work he had done. Now, who knows how much of that was true. My neighbor is out of town and I am not able to confirm if Glenn had actually worked on the patio. I will call the detective tomorrow and also I am going to drive down to the address today.....just to see if there is even a shop there. I searched on google and for that address it shows a strip mall - Fairbanks Plaza.

Call (713) 755-7874 and speak to Mr. Andy Lui, a detective for the consumer fraud division.

I have experienced the same issue with this company. I paid Glenn $650 dollars back in Nov and he has only come over one time. Basically everything in this report matches my experience. Glenn has now changed his phone number and I fear that my money will never be refunded. In addition to this I have spent countless hours trying to track Glenn down and/or trick him into meeting with me. Please do not deal with this guy.

This guy claims to have some "equipment" to sell in order to pay me (and likely 10 other folks in this town) back.
