An elderly neighbor asked me to come and translate a phone call for him. The man on the phone identified himself as John Green, saying that my neighbor had entered a mail-in lottery (sending $20.00) and had won 2.5 milloin dollars, but that we would have to go to the nearest wal-mart or k-mart store to wire $450.00 to a lawyer named Adreinne Martin for insurance on the check. Mr Green insisted that once my neighbor had called him back with the reciept that he could have his "special" UPS delivery system deliver the check this very day and that he had also qualified for an extra 25k cash bonus. I asked for the information needed to make the wire transfer, and he gave me only los angeles,ca and a phone number to call him back. I asked if he had a supervisor, mr green assurred me that his supervisor was in the office taking care of paperwork to clear this check. he noted that the check had been "stamped by the govornment (i asked what govornment and he said "yours") and that 99% of the taxes had already been paid"  when i asked to speak to his supervisor, he babbled, then put me on hold for several min. before another man (peter marsh, who strangely enough, had the same hard to understand accent, barly able to annunciate english words) I hung up after hearing his name, and mr green called me back immediately. He wanted to know were we stood, if I would go to the western union, so he could send out this check (TODAY!!!) I told him that if my neighbor called him back, he would know he sent the money, and go from there. I then promptly sat my neighbor down in front of ripoff.com, showing him many many scams simillar to this one ( he spends most of his money on the 20 dollar mail in scams, always with the promise of a return)
