I have a lot of concerns/complaints regarding GM Vanlines, Inc.  When I called the company several weeks ago to schedule for movers on 7/14/12 I was asked if I had the same amount of stuff as last time when they moved me in December 2011.  I told the lady yes and she said she would schedule the movers as last time.  She never disclosed to me how many men would be moving me just that it was $380.00 and it would be for 7am.  I asked her why it was more than last time which they charged me $300.00 and had three men.  She said because of the time of year.  I said okay.  There was no further discussion.

On 7/13/12 I received a call from GM Vanlines stating that the movers would be there at 6am.  However on 7/14/12 the movers called me at 6:15am to tell me the truck was broken and they would not be there till 8:30am.  So by 8:45am they still did not show up so I called them back and they stated they were 5 minutes away.  The movers did not show up till 9:12am and the first thing the guy did was ask to use my bathroom.  He then looked at the stuff I had to move and told me it was going to take 2hrs and 30mins.  I did not understand why it was going to take so long since the complete move in December only took 2hrs and 30min.  So after the movers made a few trips with my stuff I asked the guy why there were only 2 movers when last time I had 3 movers.  He said he would call his boss, which after that he showed me the contract and it stated 2 men and 1 truck.  Well this was never disclosed to me on the phone and nether was it the time before.  The guy kept trying to explain to me that it would have been cheaper for me to have 3 guys because it would have only cost me $10 more.  I only seen 2 guys so did not understand how they were going to get a 3rd guy.  I watched them move my stuff and they dropped several boxes and my file cabinet and several other things.

Once we were at my new place I seen they had a third guy just sitting in the truck the whole time.  I asked the guy about it and he said that I only paid for two guys.  I was never told at the old place that a third guy was there.  They told me there was going to be additional charges for time.  Well since they had my stuff in there truck there was nothing I could do.  I told the guy that he never explained to me there was another guy in the truck and I felt it was not good service.  He then wanted to waste more time arguing with me.  Overall he wasted 30 minutes between arguing with me and calling his boss.  I told him I would take it up with management on Monday.  They charged me an additional $142.50 for time.  I had no choice to pay it at the time.

Once the movers left and I started inspecting my stuff I realized there was a lot of damage.  I had a brand new mattress and box spring which they got completely dirty (they moved these in December and that did not happen then).  My head board and side rails were chipped.  My file cabinet was broken.  They broke 2 vases and several other dishes.  They placed dirty boxes on my couch so it now has dirt on it.  My washing machine is off balance now.  And my TV stand was scratched.

So I called the company 9am Monday 7/16/12 and asked for management, the lady answering stated that a manager was not available and she could help me.  So I spent time explaining to her the issue and she said that she would have the manager call me back when he came in.  I waited till 10:30am and tried back, she stated that the manager is not in and she left a message on his desk and thats all she can do.  So around 3:30pm I called back and supposedly another lady answered but it sounded like the lady from before and she said the manager was not in but she was the owner and could help me.  So I explained to her everything that happened and she began arguing with me saying that I was lying about the issues and that she was the one that took the call to schedule the movers and that she disclosed how many movers and all the other information.  She said that I got what I paid for and that there was nothing they were going to do for me and I was not going to be reimbursed anything just because I was dissatisfied with my moving experience.  I began telling her how unprofessional it is and that's not a way to treat a customer especially a repeat customer.  I asked her about the damages and she said she would mail me a claim form and I would have to take pictures and mail them in.  So once again I am out money for the cost of pictures considering all the damage they did.  I asked if they could fax or email it to me but said they did not have a way to do that.  How can I expect to be reimbursed for damages when they are so unprofessional and rude.  So I told her I would just dispute the charges on my credit card and she said if I did that they would not be reimbursing me for any damages.  Doubt they were going to anyway.  She then began arguing with me more and cursing at me and telling me good luck with not paying for services.

I feel this company is a scam and I was taken advantage of.  I was quoted a price but then not disclosed any information even though they claim they emailed me, which they did not and how could that be accurate considering she told me she could not email me a damage claim form.  This company does not have any customer service skills and does not care about the satisfaction of there customers.  They back you into to a corner so you have to pay more because they have all your belongings in there truck.  This company should not be used by anyone.
