called a Gold Medal for the estimate to replace Pressure Reducing Valve in my home. Andrew from the Gold Medal came to home and gave an estimate of $935.65 to replace. When I asked him about the price of the Valve, he replied he has no idea about it. I did web search, while he was writing and estimate. The Valve cost was $65.00 (homedepot.com) and $88.00 (at plumbing supply store).

Next I asked him how long will it take to replace the valve and he said 3 to 4 hours. When I made an appointment with Gold Medal, I asked them that a valve replacement needed. Even then Andrew did not have part on his truck. I courteously asked him that if I need help I will call you back. After he left, I called another local plumbing company and technician showed up next day. He gave me an estimate of $200.00 including parts and labor. Not only that, he also had a part on his truck, he replaced it within 15 minutes and left.


Next day I received survey call from Gold Medal for technician’s visit. I requested representative have a manager call me at his/her convenience. I received a call from Manager and asked him to justify the estimated price. He responded that their prices are based on task and listed in catalog. The price has nothing to do with the price of parts and/or labor involved.

Gold Medal uses upfront lump sum pricing that takes into account several factors of the individual repair.  There is also member pricing and non-member pricing.  The repair job in this instance was priced at $795.30 for member pricing and $935.65 non-member pricing.  No repair is undertaken without prior approval.  In this instance, the customer declined to have the repair done and was charged the svc trip fee of $49.00 plus tax.  If there needs to be further discussion on this matter, the customer can call me at 732-390-3717 directly.  Thank you.  Jim.

As you said you would love to speak, but seems like your company's invoice number didn't help you find information you need to contact the customer or .......... you have nonthing to say about it. As Mike said love to speak

 Mike,

I am sorry to learn that you are not able to find the records in the system. I can give you a Technician Name who was at my home and wrote me invoice. He wrote invoice on the ruled paper and took picture with his i-pad. The tehcnician is Andrew ( I do not want to give his last name) but I will give you invoice # 219974 for the payment of $52.00 as service fee. I think this information should help you find the information. 

As far as the work time concern, it might have been half hour but nothing more than that. It just took to unscrew the valve and screw it back with proper plumbing method. As far as warranty is concern, it is same with the company who did the work. As far as Gold Medal concern, it turned out the labor was $800.00 even if i consider part cost of $135.65. It is very expensive labor even if it takes four hours to do the job (which in this case was impossible). Andrew told me, your technician will have to cut the pipes and join them back. It was unnecessary in this case (I also pointed out it to him). Also the warranty was for labor only and not parts. If I consider the cost you charge me in labor, it turn out that I am already paying you for five years labor whether I am going to use it or not. The price quote include as follws:

Gold New P.R.V. Installed and tested No Tune up or maintaince. $935.65

I would love to have had the opportunity to speak with you persoanlly, but unfortuantly, I do not have enough information to be able to locate you in our computor system. As to the comments on the cost of the repair, without seeing an actual receipt, there is no way of knowing what, if anything, was actually done and what kind or lentgh of warranty, if any was given. Our repair would have come with a full five year warranty. We would gladly compare " apples to apples" any day of the week. Also, if the pressure reducing valve was changed, I know that this job cannot be performed in 15 minutes. Also, the price is not in line with the range of costs for the work in question.

The expirience that you described in your review are not indicative of our cutsomer's normal expirience. In particular, Gold Medal prices all work through a flate rate price book, never by the hour, and our prices do not fluctuate by circumstances or need. our customers can have faith that our prices will not change based upon circumstances to their disadvantage.
