Gold Medal Service Gold Medal plumbing - Huge Scam! Internet

I scheduled an appt. with Gold Medal service and was shocked by their pricing. This company is runs huge scams and can easily take advantage of uninformed home owners. I have shower faucets that need replacing. They don't leak but water shoots out of the faucets when the shower is turned on...to me it appeared to be old faucets that might have needed to be replaced. Well, I was told that my faucets were so old that they don't support or fix those types anymore (really? I see them at Lowes/Home Depot all the time). Ok so he said he had to get inside the wall and replace the whole entire thing and quoted $1400! I nearly passed out. I had a guy come in and replace my sink faucet for less than $100 so was floored with this quote. He also said that I needed a chrome plate to cover the hole that would be left after faucets were replaced and that would cost $239!! So the $1400 only included labor and replacing the faucets!!

Other issue I had was a toilet bowl that was over flowing. No matter how much I adjusted floater and tugged the chain, the tank would fill to the point where water was leaking out of the hole in the handle. This was an intermittent problem. Plumber said he had to cut/adjust the overflow tube inside tank so that if water reach its level, it would just drain into the toilet bowl. He also said he need to replace the handle/lever and that would fix the problem. I said ok, sounds easy enough but the price quote was $266!! Holy cow, I have a 2 family home and had the interior of the toilet replace before. The materials only cost me almost $30 for everything ( replaced fixtures inside tank) and labor was $50. Here is this guy telling me that they use the best products, have a 1 year warranty, etc and that's what I'm paying for.

I told him to leave because clearly this company makes their money by price gouging its customers. There is no way the work above would have come close to $2000!!

So even though I didn't get the repair work done, I still had to pay the service call fee which comes out to $52 including tax. These people scam you either way since you pay even if you don't get the work done. They have all these coupons on their site to entice you by saying you don't pay for service call if you gets repair but they make it absolutely impossible for anyone in their right mind to pay for that kind of money. If you do then you have serious money to blow and even though I make good money, I know when I'm about to be ripped off and I'm not going for that BS.

I just wanted to tell my story even though I didn't go through with the repairs but I'm hoping enough people read this and find someone else for their repair service. I'm sure there are enough decent contract workers/repair men/women out there. This company shouldn't be permitted to operate like this. Total waste of time and money. I can easily see them taking advantage of the elderly too who don't have someone advocating/protecting them from these snakes.
