I brought in a gold chain & pendant of my late sister's to this store to get the chain shortened. The owner commented that it was a very good chain. They gave me a receipt stub that contained the words "chain" and "$20" (the cost of the repair).
When I returned to the store several days later after getting a call that the repair had been done, the clerk gave me a silver chain. I protested that it wasn't mine. She then showed me the main part of the receipt, which I hadn't seen before; it had the word "silver" written in above "chain." I refused it & angrily left the store.
The owner called me the next day to insist angrily that I'd brought in a silver, not a gold, chain. I can't PROVE I didn't, but: (1) the chain I brought in matched the pendant -- GOLD. I'd worn it several times and KNOW what it looked like. (2) I have a lifelong aversion to silver jewelry and never allow it to even touch my body. (3) My husband & 5 friends are prepared to swear the chain I brought in was gold.
Yesterday I priced an almost identical, but shorter, gold chain; it cost $299. (I couldn't afford it & didn't buy it.) So this lying jeweler in effect stole that amount or more from me. He now has the lovely chain he admired and I have nothing.
