I was a month-to-month member at Tampa Palms Golds Gym. I recently move across town to St. Petersburg, Florida.

I was told by the Tampa Palms branch management when I signed my contract that when the contract was up that I did not need to resign a contract, just pay on a monthly basis.

I was also told that all it would take to transfer my membership was a $40 fee. I gave the St. Petersburg branch of Golds Gym my copy of the contract in good faith. 7 weeks pass by and I am still a transfer in action.

I was told the Tampa Palms is stuborn. It will take time to transfer the membership. Yesterday, a desk employee approached me stating that my transfer papers were lost and I needed to fill out a new transfer card.

He also stated that the gym does not have my contract from Tampa Palms. I feel like a horses a*s for not photocopying it.

After filling out the form, again, the desk employee approached me 3 more times stating that I needed to terminate my existing contract with Tampa Palms.

I tried correcting him and told him to call a particular owner who told me about the transfer info at Tampa Palms. He told me that this Tampa Palms owner said the same thing. Now I get irate. I went into a big scolding fit about how these two Golds Gyms are uncooperative and are stressing me out.

I was stern but never derogatory[cursing him out]. As I was walking out the desk employee calls me over once again. I told him once again in a very stern and frustrated manner, "Give me your phone number.

I will straighten this out myself..." He states that he does not like my tone of voice. Excuse me, is this grade school over again? I stated that I am a Golds Gym customer.

Another desk employee jumps foward and states "Get out of my F'N gym..." I demanded my contract back.

They denied me ever giving it to them. Afterwards this same desk employee states "I will call the F'N police..." I said, "Go ahead".

Then he said "I will kick the F'N sht out of you". I told him to try.

The original desk employee comes around and forces me out the door like I was some drunk or something in a bar.

While this is happening, the owner is watching. I asked him to intervene.

He gave me a smug expression and just said something useless. So OK, here is the dirt sheet on Golds Gym:

- Contract fraud
- Brutal desk staff
- Disengenuine owner

To top it off, I called the Golds Gym franchise office.

All they did was give me the owners address.

I stated that I am taking at least 3 other people out of Golds with me. She could care less.

So as of today, I wrote a letter to terminate my original Golds Gym contract, had it notorized and sent it certified mail.

I also called my credit card company and told them my story.

They reported my card lost or stolen and issued me a new one. I am most likely going to be hit with two whammies after being physically and mentally assaulted:

1. Credit agencies harrassing me
2. Golds Gym either
a. Claim I never sent them a letter
b. Tell me it is in the wrong format

People, stay away from Golds Gym in St. Petersburg and Tampa Palms/Dale Mabry locations in Florida. They will rip you off.

Gold's Gym Does Not Rip People Off

AUTHOR: Doug - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, August 14, 2003

This person was a member of the Tampa Palms Gold's Gym which is separate business from our Tampa Gold's gym. These gyms have two different owners.

We have an agreement between owners that allows members from one gym to workout at the other gym without paying an extra fee.. The agreement calls for the member to transfer to the other gym (the one they did not join) if they are using it more than the gym they joined. This allows the gym being used to collect the monthly payments.

In this case the member refused to transfer, so we had no choice but to not allow him to use our gym.

I own 5 locations in the area and have been in business for 19 years. We do not mistreat members as we have been accused.

Thanks for the opportunity to set the record straight.
