I have won several auctions through the Goodwill online. 1st they are totally gouging on shipping fees and 2nd the most important they are padding and over charging on state sales tax. WA state sale tax is 9.9% in King County.

They are charging anywhere from 12.8%-20% depending on which store you buy from. Now the store doing this are in Oregon, Willamette and Tacoma WA. I dont know how this is even legal! I have sent them emails but no response. Buyers beware! I will be contacting the state tax board next.

I called the Goodwill (forgot to update this blog) and the state tax board. Accorinding to the Goodwill they are charging sales tax on shipping. For all states. Unethical but not against any tax rules.

I do a lot of online shopping and don't know of any other comapny that charges tax on shipping, may over charge on shipping, but no tax. Goodwill overcharges (WAY ovecharges) on shipping and taxes it to boot.

Nothing like really gouging the public!

Its interesting that you say its only happening to the purchases you are buying from specific locations because all of their online billing runs directly through Shopgoodwill. Shopgoodwill runs the credit card authorizations through Authorize.net for all auction payments. Because of this, the tax is set independent of the store locations. Maybe you should contact Shopgoodwill.com directly with your tax concern. (?) Maybe they have something wacky going on related to their software.
