I had a noise in the front end of my car and took it to a shop,was told the front end was in need of repair.I wanted a second opinion and estimate,not knowing another mechanic I starting looking for a reputable shop and remembered seeing a shop with a large Goodyear sign on the building.I looked in the phone book and found them listed as Goodyear tire center,I called and asked if they repaired front ends and  they replied yes.I took my car in and left it ,on the work order it clearly stated to inspect the front end,next morning Mark called and said that the front end was fine and what it needed was a complete brake job with an esimate of $700.00 and I agreed but after thinking about it I felt something wasn't right and thinking they hadn't had time to get the parts I called back in appox. 45 minutes to cancel the work and was told that they had finished the brake job!When I picked up the car I asked for the old parts. The car make the same noise and I took it back and they refused to even look at it! The noise became worse and I took it to another shop and without telling the mechanic what I thought was wrong he not only told me but showed me that the front end was shot.I asked him if it could be overlooked by a mechanic,and he replied no,then I showed him the old brake parts and without telling him the situation I asked him if the brakes needed to be replaced,he replied that in his opinion that there was a good 10,000 miles left on the brakes and that there was enough brake pad left that they should not have made a noise.

After having the front end repaired I went back to Goodyear tire center and showed Seth,the store manager, the front end repair invoice and the old brake parts and he immediately got on the defensive and told me since this took place several months back he couldn't do anything for me,I then informed Seth that in the interim I had  open heart surgery and two deaths in the family,he then looked at the old brake parts and said that they were in the margin for repair and that they did nothing wrong,I then ask Seth why they told me the front end was ok when it wasn't,and Seth had no answer for this but placed my car on the rack and he and another guy looked at the front end and Seth told me he would have to think about it and I left thinking he would contact me.I figured out later that what he mean by he would have to think about it was that he had to call the owner who I found out  later is headquartered in Denton,Texas and has a number of shops across north Texas.When I didn't hear from Seth in about three weeks I went back and could tell he was not real happy to see me again,he told me that since it had been so long and since I didn't have the old front end parts(he never mentioned this before) there was nothing he could do. I originally went to this business because of the prominent Goodyear sign on the building and the listing in the phone book as Goodyear tire center.I contacted the Goodyear tire and rubber corp. and was told that the only affiliation between them and this business is that they sell their tires.It seems that the big "Goodyear" on the front of the building is just an advertising sign. 

I find this and the phone book listing very misleading.I asked a mechanic why a shop would not do the front end work and instead opt to do a brake job,he replied that front end work is a lot harder and requires more training then brake jobs,brake jobs are fast,easy and very profitable. Since this all happened I have done a lot of research on auto repair shops and their gimmicks used to lure people in,one of which is the cheap oil change,if you think a shop can give 5 quarts of premium oil and a filter, pay labor and overhead and make a profit on an oil change advertised under twenty dollars,you need to do the math.They want you to come in so they can give your car that free visual inspection and see if they like maybe can sell you a brake job!I found out in my research that the state of Texas has no regulatory agency over auto repair/service businesses even though auto repair scams are the number one public complaint.Your doctor,your electrician,even your barber has to have a professional license and is under a regulatory agency that can levy fines and in extreme cases pull the license of those that violate the rules.Contact your state legislator and demand that they protect the public by placing auto repair/service shops under a regulatory agency.
