This university is a ripp off. They claim they are a Christian University. Everything seems to check out at first.

I began in July. I did not get my financial aid until my first class was over. I thought it was a one time mistake. They recieved my government funds for fall the first week of November. I spoke to them on the phone several times during this period. They took the money but did not post it to my account and they keep sending emails that I need to pay my tuition. I might have thought this was a mistake had they not claimed they made an error posting my summer aid and charged me 900 and some dollars. I checked and there was not a mistake. They are just ripp off artists.

As for the classes, I question the whole thing because I have never attended a college that did not require students to take tests.

Needless to say I won't be taking anymore courses there. I live in PA and was stupid for not just using a college here. I'm planning on transferring to Penn State because I know they are real. If Grand Canyon continues trying to scam me I'll be hiring an attorney and going after them.

Don't get sucked in my Grand Canyon University. They are a ripp off.

Employee is an employee

Regarding the employee of GCU that says that GCU has a process for students to complain, I have a question. Where is it? The GCU website is designed to make it hard to contact anyone. Once you have a problem, phone calls are not returned or if they are, promises are made, only to draw out the problem. GCU apparently has official policy to commit fraud.

I was considering enrolling until I read the Employee response.

I was considering enrolling here to finish my degree, but then I read "Grand Canyon University stands on the degrees it offers, as well as the customer service it provides. We hope that learning about the regulations which regulate financial aid clears up any concerns you have."

I have no idea what it means to "stand on" a degree--Does that mean step all over the piece of paper and squish it into the ground. I could be optimistic and think that the writer meant that the degrees conferred by GCU were the pillars on which the GCU was built on, but I think it's far more likely the writer simply meant "GCU stands by the degrees is offers."

Furthermore, I realize that online universities are typically a for-profit endeavor, however I would never expect a school to offer "customer service". At least be smart enough to give a nice euphemism like "academic support".

Some research may provide the answer

AUTHOR: Logicfails - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, June 03, 2008

I have worked for several schools, including the one in question, and I can say with a clear conscience, that what you state you have experienced is extremely uncommon. If anything, GCU always provides adequate opportunities for resolution.

In the case of the customer service comment you made, you are remiss in the facts that you have presented, as well as your concerns about your personal information. GCU takes the security of your personal info VERY seriously. There have been cases where employees have been terminated for leaving their desks and not locking up any student info beforehand.

The only service that is even remotely outsourced is some, not all, of the technical support. These individuals do not have access to any personal student info. The only thing they can access is the classroom, which does not require personal info to be shared.

Financial Aid misappropriation is not a subject to take lightly. GCU has numerous safeguards in place to help secure, apply, and disburse your funds in the allotted timeframe. I, myself, have run in to several students who have failed to complete all required forms and paperwork necessary for the school to assist with financial aid.

When attending a University, you are responsible for providing all documentation necessary for financial aid. Oh, and by the way, did you know that until the school receives you transcripts from any prior schools, it cannot disburse your fa money?

More information

AUTHOR: Christine - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, January 22, 2008

I am well aware of the financial aid process but that does not explain why I am being billed for something I have an email that states I do not owe them anything.

I have completely withrawn from the "University"

I also have more delightful information about the University. They outsource their customer service to foreign countries. Therefor the students personal information is floating arround in foriegn countries were our laws covering fraud and identity theft are not applicable.

Now I have no idea who has access to my personal information because the financial aid office has information that in the wrong hands could do allot of financial damage to someone who becomes the victim of fraud. I would have never enrolled had I known not only because of the financial danger but because I refuse to do business with companies that outsourse to countries that do not support the american cause by harboring terrorists.

Grand Canyon University

AUTHOR: Grand Canyon University - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, December 13, 2007

Grand Canyon University always welcomes feedback from our students regarding any issues a student is having at the University. Additionally, we have an appeals process that students can go through to explain their extenuating circumstance or disagreement with a University policy. Due to the Federal Educational Rights and Privacy Act we cannot discuss your particular situation on an international blog.
When dispersing Financial Aid, the University must follow the regulations promulgated by the United States Department of Education. Under those regulations, Universities have up to 14 days from the posting of funds to a student's account to release excess funds to students. Grand Canyon University always releases excess funds with the timeframe required by the United States Department of Education. Financial Aid eligibility is also dependent on a student's continued enrollment at the University.

Grand Canyon University stands on the degrees it offers, as well as the customer service it provides. We hope that learning about the regulations which regulate financial aid clears up any concerns you have.
