I HAVE BEEN APART OF GLCU FOR 2 YEARS ever since i was in boot camp, they promise good customer service and low fees. About 9 months ago i tried to get checks sent to me at my new command in california( i have a checking account with more money then the bank has) and the ladie told me that i have to come in to fill out a form to get new checks and do a change of address. Now these rude, lazy people know they are dealing with military people who will not be no where close to there office in the near future and told me to come in to the office LIES LIES LIES!

Do you remember when they come in and tell your division, "your visa check card will even work on the ship" Bullship is what i'm telling you, nor does it work overseas in naples.

I have tried and tried to have them transfer my funds to a different bank and everytime it is something else, or it will take 4 to 6 months to do and in that time you will not be able to access your account I have never heard of such HOW MANY TIMES HAVE YOU HAD $5 TO $30 DOLLARS COME UP MISSING ! THINK BACK THIS BANK SHOULD BE SHUT DOWN AND THE PEOPLE FINED FOR THERE CONDUCT.

Possible solution to Great Lakes Credit Union Problem

I've been in the military for 5 years and also have an account with GLCU and can honestly say that I have never had a problem with them. I'm sorry to hear that you have, but I offer a few suggestions:



When you're onboard a ship, the "ATM" machines there are not necessarily the same as the ones on-shore. You need to get a card to use that machine from your disbursing clerks or your PLR.

As you have already experienced, your GLCU card will not work at that machine because it's not the right card.



When overseas, certain ATM machines will not accept your card simply because they only accept cards that operate with other systems. The GLCU card is a PLUS system card and those ATM machines in Naples probably didn't accept the PLUS system; this also happens in the states so there's usually a sign printed over or beside an ATM machine saying what systems they accept. I was in Spain for awhile and know this from experience.



I don't know who you're talking to in regard to ordering checks, change of address, and withdrawing or transferring funds, but they are wrong in a sense and you should, if you have not already done so, talk to a supervisor.



I have called before and given them a change of address, ordered checks, and had funds transferred without a problem and, of course, these all come with certain fees that get automatically withdrawn from your account so that might be why you might see a few bucks gone here and there from your account, though your statements should show these fees.



I should advise that you be polite when you call and ask for help because if you call with a wrong attitude and you happen to get someone at the other end who just happened to get yelled at by another customer she/he might not be so willing to help you, though this wouldn't be good customer service at any rate and you should then insist on speaking with their supervisor.



You shouln't have to mail in anything. You can go to their online website at www1.glcu.org/ and you can do just about everything there yourself, but you do have to sign-up first in order to use their "Home Banking" services. You can sign up for that service by going to "Web Connect" then "Home Banking" and from there you can enroll in the program (all of this is done on the website).



Lastly, you have been in for two years and have not had your command financial specialist or your chain of command get involved with this? Shipmate, this information should have been passed down to you when you first checked in that when you have a problem that gets out of your control you head to the command's financial specialist, if it's in regard to finances, or to your LPO and then up the chain if it's anything else. Your chain of command is there to help you and to guide you so use them when it becomes necessary or when you have any questions. Good luck to you.
