On 6/26 - Great Plains moving and storage packed and picked up 3100 pounds to ship from Denver to Hawaii. I requested additional insurance as advise by my insurance company USAA

7/25 Received email from Darlene, regarding insurance with a valued inventory and declaration forms from North American International Insurance as well as a scanned in copy of the inventory from the crew and instructions and cost of the coverage we were asking for. I proceeded to fill out the form following the instructions of that form as well as the instructions given from the moving company. I read the attached policy coverage explanation and signed the forms. I paid them directly $349 for insurance.

August 22nd- the local moving company arrived with 3 crates. One was severely damaged, it had been noted that it arrive broken, with holes and had been droppped possibly in water. The contents were damaged from nails, from it being dropped and also severe water damaged.
8/22 I contacted Darlene immediately who emailed me a claim form. The claim for was from a different company (executive insurance) than I had signed papers for.

I contacted Executive Insurance and opened a claim. Shortly after I sent in my information to them I was told that because it wasn't their form many items were not going to be covered. I went to the Executive Insurance website where I saw that they did not have the same policy or instructions that the forms I filled out did. Executive Insurance's forms very clearly state on the front that all items must be noted and valued. All items not listed on the form are not insured

The forms I got did not have that, and nowhere on those forms does it say that if I do not list something it would not be covered or that the amount I propose as value is all I can get if the items are destroyed. It only says that I cannot claim anymore than the total amount and it talks about getting replacement or repair costs not exceeding the VALUE OF THE DAMAGED ITEM, not what I state as the value. I went to the website for North American and reviewed the instructions for insurance.

It has the valued inventory form that you can download. This form is ALSO COMPLETELY different than the one I signed and had I gotten this one, there would be no problems as it has detailed instructions and clearly states at the beginning, that you must 10/19-Received final settlement from Executive Insurance and an explanation indicating that due to the forms not being correct, we were only getting $5049.00 and that I need to contact the moving claim regarding the $13,451.00 loss.
10/21-Request from Great Plains Moving and Storage to submit a claim and all supporting documents. At that time offered a settlement offer.

11/8 Received an email from Mr Roy Mitchel that they were submitting the claim to their company Transguard.
November 25th Received a denial that they would not cover an administrative error only if the items were damaged while in Great Plains possession.

11/26 - Informed Mr. Mitchell that the claim was denied and asked him to rectify the situation. Received an email right back saying they were standing by the insurance company denial and were ending communication with me from here on out.

UPDATE-July 2010 ISSUE RESOLVED

AUTHOR: Corina - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, July 15, 2010

After reviewing RIP OFF REPORT policy I discovered reports cannot be removed so I am posting an update.

After further contact with Great Plains Moving and Storage the matter has been resolved to my satisfaction. Great Plains did not have any control over my belongings after they were packed and I now realize Great Plains was not responsible for the damage to my goods.
