I was contacted by Great Southern Services d/b/a E-Shield of Florida to schedule an energy audit and demo of their product that would save money on my electric bills.  When the sales rep arrived he was great, and within minutes I felt like I had known him for years.  Before he even did the demo, I told him that I was broke and couldn't buy anything.  He asked if he could go ahead and show the product anyway, and I agreed.

The presentation was impressive, He checked and adjusted my refrigerator/freezer, hot water heater, checked the attic/insulation, checked the air conditioning unit, checked the roof and the soffit.  He recorded the measurements.

He inquired about my current electric bills and I showed him my statements.  He told me that according to his readings my electric bills would be between $45.00 - $50.00 per month. I don't recall the original price he came back with, but it was in the neighborhood of $12,000.00.  I told him there was no way! He then said I would also get $5,000.00 in food vouchers that would help feed my family.  He said they would also throw in a case of energy efficient light bulbs to further my savings.  I still told him no.

He then called someone and came back with a lower amount,  I told him no.  We went though this 3-4 times and then he came back with a price of $4,890.00.  He said the payment would be low enough that with the savings on the electric bills the product would pay for itself and there would be no out of pocket cost to me.  He showed be a certificate that promised at least 25% savings on my electric bills.  He also said that if E-shield guaranteed 25%, it would actually be 35%, 45%, or more.

He pointed out that there was a 3 day right to cancel and that I should give it a try.  I told him that I had no money and there was no way that I could get anything financed because of my income-to-debt ratio.  He said his company had ways of making things happen.  Reluctantly, I agreed to let them run my credit.  My credit was approved.

As he was giving me things to sign, I started to read the forms, but every-time I would start to read, we would start talking again.  He told me they were just standard forms and I would get copies, he reminded me that I would have 3 days to look over the forms and had the right to cancel. He said that I would get my copies when the installers arrived. This was on Friday, 5/20/11.

The installers (2 men) arrived on Monday, 5/23/11.  As they were installing the E-shield in the attic,  another arrived to bring the paperwork and add  an additive to the air conditioning unit.  He ran out of the additive but said that it was "just enough".  He gave me copies of the credit application along with a Sales/Purchase Order.  He gave me copies of these but not the paperwork from 5/20/11.  I asked about the food vouchers and the light bulbs and was told that because of the reduced price of the product the "perks" no longer applied.

It took the installers a little less than 2 hours to install the E-Shield and then they were gone.  The made good time but the foil was "drooping" down and looked very sloppy.  I don't know if that is the way it is designed.  I went to the meter box and took a reading, expecting to see some results in the kWh's used.  I was taking reading every hour.  I continued taking the reading (a little less frequently) on Tuesday, 5/24/11 and Wednesday, 5/25/11.

On Thursday, 5/26/11 (3rd day after signing), I knew that I had been duped. There was vertually no difference in the kWh's used.  I hand delivered the signed cancellation to E-Shield.  At first it was refused, Alex at E-shield finally said that I had the right to cancel the "financing" only and that they would hold me responsible for the product.  I told them to come get the product because it wasn't doing as was promised.  He said they would "absloutely not" be taking it back.  He said the product needs a "break -in period" like a pair of shoes.  I told him that I didn't buy that.  He asked if he could send a supervisor to check the product and installation.  I told him that would be fine but the contract was still cancelled.

When the supervisor arrived he looked up in the attic and took a thermal reading.  He also took a thermal reading from outside on top of the house.  He said the E-Shield was doing what it was supposed to do.  I asked him why the kWh's used were not being reduced and he used the same analogy of the "break-in period/shoes".

I cancelled the finance agreement on 5/26/11 at 5:00pm.  E-shield still processed the loan.  I received a call from the verification department of Time Investment.  I told the rep there was nothing to verify because the application had been cancelled.  She said there was no record of the cancellation and that I had a loan with Time Investment.  I told her that was not the case, and they should contact Alex at E-Shield.

Over the next several months, I received calls at home and at work from Time Investment.  Each time it was a different person calling.  One of the Reps from Time Investment got really rude and used the same " It needs a break-in period" routine.  I asked if Time Investment and E-Shield was one in the same?  I was told no.  I was continually getting phone calls and statements from Time Investment.

Then a received a call from Alex at E-shield informing me that they would be sueing me for their money.  Once again I told him the product was not working.

E-Shield hired an attorney to sue me for breach of contract. I hired an attorney to try to negotiate a settlement.  Everytime they would make a proposal and I would ask for clarification,  they would come back with "hidden" amounts.  My attorney couldn't even decipher.

E-Shield has now acknowelged that the financing was cancelled.  They are trying to collect on a product that has not performed as promised.  The original papers that were signed (that I didn't get copies of) were dated on 5/20/11.  I received a copy of the original agreement specifications when I received a Summons on 11/11/11.

The sales rep for E-Shield used high pressure and decption to make a sale on a product that has not performed as promised.
