The HOOK went in to us on Dec. 20, 2007 and they TOOK $5,920 from us for our "life-long, family membership" with all of its attractive PROMISES. Most proved to be ILLUSIONS.
The 1-week Maui, Hawaii holiday hook? Well, they don't really have the the condos and so little access to them that their "subject to availability" escape clause = wait forever.
The free round-trip airfare anywhere hook has so many conditions it's not useful.
Their "super website" is absolutely 3rd rate. Look at www.greatescapesonline.com to see.
Their forte is supposedly better rates for condos, airfares and voyages. Not true. (((Competitor's Name Redacted)))(((link redacted))) gets you better prices in many more places. A little comparative shopping found us better prices direct from the cruise lines or (((link redacted))).
Perhaps the biggest promise NOT kept by GreatESCAPES is that they make your plans EASIER. "The Devil is in the details," and wow do they pile on the devilish details, conditions and escape clauses.
Maybe that's one reason they're called GreatESCAPES. There's another--
--Detail: On the "Purchaser's Right to Cancel" - you only have 1 day to review, examine and evaluate their promises and provide them with written notification of cancellation.
Otherwise, as the sun sets, they will have ESCAPED with your money.

My wife and I joined GE in mid 2002. Due to jobs and time we have just starting using our membership about 2 years ago. We have booked 6 or 7 cruises varying from 5 days, 7 days and one Royal Caribbean 15 day Trans Atlantic cruise. Each time the price we paid was the lowest we found anywhere. PLUS we received Advantage dollars for each cruise and was able to apply it to our next cruise. The service was excellent and on our last Carnival cruise 08/31/09 there were two price drops before the cruise by Carnival. I call the GE Club and Linda at GE called CCL and I received a refund for the price drop to my AMX card. In May of 2008 we booked a beautiful condo on the beach in Daytona Beach, FL for 7 nights at the rate of $450 for a large beach front one bedroom condo.
We are flying to Tampa 09/19/09 via Airtran round trip for 2 at a rate of $190 per person. . .a rental economy car @ $80 for 7 days and a 2 bedroom condo in Indian Shores FL for 7 nights at a rate of $199 for 7 nights . . .all from our membership in Great Escapes/Advantage Travel.
Someone said. . .membership has it's advantages. . .we are taking advantage of our membership in Great Escapes. Every member in our family can use the GE membership for condos, cruises, air, hotels. . .I even gave use of the GE privaliges to a close friend, his wife and 5 kids age 5-12 for a 4 day Carnival Fantasy Cruise out of New Orleans at a cost of $2300 which was $200 -$300 cheaper than any fare they could find. . .I received an Advantage Dollar credit of $169 to use toward our next cruise fare.
Bottom line. . .we are very happy with Great Escapes. One note about airfare. . I have found I can beat GE's airfare prices on certain trips.
