A few months after placing my belongings in a 15X30 inside aisle, climate controlled storage unit at Green Acres Storage, I went to empty my unit. About half way back into the unit, I discovered my property was soaking wet and covered in black and red mold. I immediately contacted the owner who came to my unit and inspected the damaged property. He admitted that they had pushed the snow against the outside doors (again, my unit was one aisle over inside) and the snow had melted and come in under the doors of several other units a few months earlier. I inquired why they had not contacted me to come inspect my property when they other units reported damage and I was told they didn't think it was necessary. I refused to take the damaged property home since it was covered in mold and I had no outside place to store it so the property was moved to another unit until the claim was settled. Within a few days, the story had changed to they water came in through the roof. That was completely impossible since there was no damage to anything on top, only the items on the floor which clearly showed the water had wicked up from the floor. Over a year later, Green Acres has failed to return my calls or acknowledge my email which provided the information they requested to settle the claim. Since then, the story continues to change from water coming in under the walls to coming in through the ceiling, whatever seems to suit their need for that day. The fact remains, I paid nearly $200 a month for climate control only to have my property destroyed. They ultimately disposed of the property. I fortunately, do have photos of everything that was damaged. Green Acres will not provide me with a copy of the contract when I asked. Instead they provided a "blank" contract signed by them only. They claim they are not responsible for ANY damage what-so-ever, negligence included. BE AWARE: My personal renters insurance would not cover this (State Farm) and Green Acres refuses to do the right thing and replace my damaged property. I have been forced to file suit through my attorney to get paid for my destroyed property. If you value your property, DO NOT RENT FROM GREEN ACRES.
