I purchased a Greendot prepaid master card, using a reload card for $9.95. When I added the funds to the account I was offered the premiere package. This package was suppose to offer all of these benifits it was realy not worth it. Like the No surcharge ATM. All point is a no Surcharge ATM, but they charge me $2.00 anyway.

When i first logged into my account online at www.greendotonline.com, after I entered my card number and pin an offer was on top of the screen stating they would give me a chance to rebuild my credit with a $200.00 credit limit all i had to do was pay $89.95, also i only had until April 30, 2007 to do so. I called and asked about this card I was told once I paid the 89.95 using the relaod card I would recieve my card in 7 - 10 Days.

I paid the money as requested, 10 days later I recieved a letter in the mail stating I needed to verify my address, I gave them all of my information when i applied for the prepaid card, thaey had it for almost 1 month, They mailed me the prepaid card, so that should have verified my address.

I called and was told I was approved and all they need is a lease or utility bill. I was then giving a fax number 605-782-3345 and she told me to fax it right away and they would send my card out that day.

I sent the fax, i called to see if they recieved the fax, then i was told it takes 7- 10 days to look at the fax, i asked if she could just look to see if she recieved the fax so 10 days from now i wont be ask to fax again and then 10 days later again, because they only gave me 30 days to submit this information. she refused, I was on the phone forever arguing about the situation I started not to trust the company because It made no sence to me to give a deadline to submit information but they wait so long to review the information, or at least see that it was recieved.

I asked to speak to a manager she said he will call me back, I got so frustrated I hung up. She called me back stating she will be sending me a check in 4- 8 weeks with a refund. I told her who asked you to do that, I paid my money for this and unless you are giving me intrest you don't make the decision to with hold my money from me for so long, and never give me the card i paid for. I told her I have a Pre Paid debit card and asked her to deposit my refund the same way she recieved the money. She said that this was the way we do refund so you will have to wait and hung up the phone.

I called again and got another girl she told me that my aplication was not with drawn and to call back on Thursday to check the status of my aplication. I called on thursday and I was told the aplication was withdrawn by my request and they will be mailing me a check soon.

I was beyond upset, so I decided to go to the better business bureau, I could not find this company so I called again and again to try to find out who these people are each time I called I got a diffrent story, First I was told they where First national bank, so i called First national bank they never heard of Greendot, I called again and was told they are first national bank of south Dekota, I tried calling this company and came to a dead end again.

Then I spoke to someone named Brian (a manager) he told me it is tricky they are called Greendot credit card and for a refund to be processed I had to call Greendot debit card. I called greendot Debit card and I was told I could only get a refund if I had the original reload card. so I called back and Told them I want to file a law suit and need to know the name of there company then I was told it was First national credit card.
If anyone knows the name of this company please tell me, because I cant get the truth out of theses people.

Green Dot's Actual Bank Name

AUTHOR: Muincat - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, November 21, 2008

First of all, wow! I'm really sorry you had such a negative experience with Green Dot. Second of all, you wanted to know the company's real name. It is Columbus Bank and Trust Company--I hope that you are able to track them down and get this issue resolved.

For what its worth, here's my two cents about the Green Dot Card:

I have read a few reports here about how bad Green Dot is. I have been using Green Dot for almost a year and a half now and not had any problems with the card itself. Their customer service staff leaves a lot to be desired and you're usually just better off learning to navigate their website than talk to a live person.

I got stuck using Green Dot because my jerk of an ex-husband ran off on me and left me all the debt. I had to file bankruptcy, so no bank will touch me for now. With the world running on plastic I HAD to have some way of paying bills. Green Dot works for me. Do I wish I didn't have to use it and could have a REAL bank account? Sure, but at least this card allows me to function in the modern financial world. I have had direct deposit set up on it several times and it always works. My biggest problem is trying to explain to employers and my bill collectors what Green Dot is. Usually the direct deposit delay is on the end of the employer and their bank and not Green Dot. A temp service I worked for had it set up IMMEDIATELY and I didn't have any wait time. More "traditional" payroll departments have gotten slogged down in the "what the heck is this thing?" problem and slowed the entire process. The only other problem I can think of that I've had is that some smaller stores and gas stations are unable to accept it. Their machine gives them the message "Contact your financial institution" or simply decline it even if you've got plenty of money. I think this is because not all merchant account providers (i.e. the smaller ones) have updated their systems to include Green Dot.

So to me, the bottom line is this: If you expect to need to use customer service a lot and aren't too hot on playing detective with the system or you can get a debit card through a regular bank without any problem, this card is not for you. If, on the other hand, you have no other banking choice and/or you're patient enough to figure out how to "work the system" (mainly the website but also their automated phone system), you should be fine with this card.
