Greystar/Saratoga Ridge Tows registered cars at their discretion Phoenix Arizona
Saratoga Ridge scheduled maintenance to re-do the asphalt in June and July. The map, which was color coded in pink, orange and red, was very convoluted. The colors all meshed together, as well the dates for construction went from June to July and back to June for the final weeks.
I moved my car on June 20th to a parking spot in the front of the complex, as to avoid construction. I took pictures of my car to post on Craig's list because the mechanic recently told me it wasn't safe to drive long distance. However, it was drivable. I then drove my car back to a spot in the visitors parking spot on June 26th. I had just been let go from my job and did not have money to fix my car at that time, not to mention, I was carpooling to work to save money. [continued below]....
From what the complex told me, there was a complaint that my car was abandoned ( it had been parked in that spot for all of four days, before being towed on July 1st). Apparently the towing company decided it was abandoned and put a sticker on my car( the frame and body of the car were in great shape and only had 70K miles on it for being a 1993). Since I was not using my car, I did not see that there was a tag on it. So, they towed it anyway. They claimed the battery was missing and the doors were unlocked. Hmmm, pretty sure this would not have happened if it was not tagged as " abandoned!" Keep in mind, I have lived at this apartment for two years, and maintenance and the leasing agents have seen me driving by in the car, as I am a friendly person and always wave. The male leasing agent even admitted he had seen my car my parking space that I was assigned, as he and other personnel have seen me get into my car.
If they had not done the construction and were more intelligent about color coding similar colors to confuse people, I would still have my car in the parking space and would still be looking into fixing my car or selling it for the parts ( I put $2500 into the car this past year). The Phoenix police have told me that the towing company would have to release my car or I can get them involved. However, I cannot drive the car back and requested the towing company tow it back to my parking spot. I do not think I need to put my life in danger by driving the car when there are mechanical issues. I am told by the manager, Julie, that they had every right to have my car towed since it was a non working car.
Aapparently, people don't experience mechanical issues and Greystar communities have the right to take your car at their discretion. I just lost my job and felt paying my rent to Greystar and feeding my kids, was more important than getting my car fixed at that moment. The car was able to be driven to the different parking spots on the community, so it was drivable.
The complex has done nothing to resolve the issue and continue to stand by their right to tow a car at their discretion, despite the looks of the vehicle. The car was registered with the state and the complex lease agreement.
If you are planning on renting here, beware of their alliance with the towing company, as they are always scanning the complex for a car to tow. On a side note from their bad business practices, I'd also like to mention, Saratoga is also a community pool. Since the gates to the main pool do not lock and the gates are too low, neighbors across the north valley make it their weekend get away! I've also seen homelss people use it as their bathtub...
