Guardian Protection Services Complaint.

In April of 2009, My husband and I signed up for Guardian Protection Services. We just rented a new townhome and wanted to have a legit security company. Little did we know that a company who is supposed to give you security actually is the one doing the ripping off.

There were 2 times, one in February of 2011 that the security system went off. Not ONCE did we get a phone call from Guardian Protection to see if we were ok. In fact, I had to call them to see if they saw that the alarm went off and they informed me that it did not show up that the alarm went off. My husband and I even intentionally set off the alarm and after 30 seconds we shut it off and not one phone call from guardian protection.

All of the sensors on the windows fell off.

After our problems with them, my husband and I decided that we would be moving to be closer to my husbands job. I called them in February of 2011 to cancel the service. I was told that they would not be able to do so unless I paid off the rest of the contract amount which I did not realize was going to be over $2000. The representative that we had told us in the beginning that we could cancel our contract if we were moving and I was very specific in stating that we were renting a townhome and that we would only be in the home for 2 years. He lied and now we are stuck with 3 more years of payments. We weren't moving out until April so I decided that I would leave it alone until then. I received a disable letter in the mail and asked for the realtors name so they could contact them once we move to transfer the service to the new tenants.

In the middle of March of 2011. I received a notice in the mail that our service has been disabled and to renew the service at a special price of $24.95 a month. This was funny because I never sent in the disable letter, so technically we should still have service. When I called the company to inquire about this, the representative said "Oh we thought you moved out, but the service is still enabled" When I asked why they sent the letter, they couldn't give me an answer. I also called the exact extension that was on the note and that person never called me back. Im assuming they thought we moved out so why not try and get someone elses money behind our backs.

In the beginning of April, I spoke to Joy and she emailed me a disable/cancel letter to fill out to disable/cancel service. I sent it right back to her via email. A few weeks later I noticed that I was charged for another month of service.

When I called to ask if they ever disabled the service, I spoke to Daniel, He informed me that the service was disabled but since the contract is for 5 years that I am still going to get charged. So they are charging me for a service that I do not even have anymore???? How can they get away with this?

Guardian Protection failed in providing a quality protection service and did not respond when our security alarm went off multiple times. Why am I paying for a service that does not work? The contract does NOT state that I am liable to pay the difference if I cancel. Daniel confirmed today that the service has been disabled so WHY am I getting billed for a service that IS NOT EVEN ON? My current landlord already has a security system in our new place and we are not allowed to transfer our security system over to our new place. All I am asking is for my account to be cancelled as my service has been cancelled. I can show proof about me being laid off, my new townhome not allowing service protection here, and the letter that shows from Guardian Protection saying that our service has been disabled back in March prior to us cancelling in order to try and sell their service to someone else.

Potential Customer

Jasmine,

I meet with Guardian tomorrow (11/28/11) here in Ohio as I'm building a home with Ryan Homes. I can say that I took your advice and read word for word, every thing you've said to many post's you've commented on when someone has complained about Guardian. I will not use Guardian for anything in my new home. I've actually printed all of these complaints with your condescending comments and plan to show them to the Guardian representative and let them know I plan to use another company. I thank you for making my meeting tomorrow very simple and it won't cost me a dime. In the future I would stop with the negative comments and try and reach out to these people and work out a solution, in the long  run it will save you your job in an economy that is struggling. People like me hate to think I just might have to deal with people like you when allowing a company into my home to do business. Happy Holidays!

Randy

Here's some thoughts...

I notice that you are upset that you signed a 5 year contact knowing very well that you may not be there past 2 years. If you were going to be moving, why would you agree to pay for service for 5 years? In addition to that, the early termination would be listed on the contract you signed indicating how much you would need to pay if you chose to cancel the agreement before the 5 years was up.

I'm going to use this analogy as I feel it best fits this situation. You purchase a cell phone from your provider with a new 2 year term contact. 4 months into said contract, you lose your phone at the bus station, therefore you do not have the phone to use the service the cell phone provider has. Do you think that the cell phone company will just allow you out of your agreement without charging you some form of a fee? Honestly, any company is out to make money or else they wouldn't be in business. Usually you are able to transfer your contract to the new tenants/owners of the property, or even another person (like a friend or family member).

As an owner of a security system, I know there is a delay in signals being transmitted. I generally will not receive a phone call if I shut the alarm off quickly enough. My monitoring company (not Guardian) explained that the system allows a reasonable length of time to disarm once the siren sounds - in case I forget it's on when armed on an instant mode or momentarily forget my code. If you would turn off your system too quickly, the monitoring center may not receive the alarm signal (because it was a false alarm). When you "tested" your system by letting it sound for 30seconds, did you contact your monitoring company to ensure it really was communicating instead of assuming it wasn't? Do you think it could have just been user error?

Any company that receives a "tip" that there is a new potential customer moving into a home is going to jump on the opportunity to sale their product. The letter may have just been a default letter indicating that the recipient could use the system that was in the home. Maybe they were hoping that you could supply that letter to your realtor or the new tenants/owners as a way of transferring your contract/services over to them (releasing you of any contractual obligations).
