On 2/6/10 my wife and myself purchased queen sleeper sofa sectional (item #4640339) with chase (item #4640367) at In Your Home Furnishings. My invoice number is: 35547A. We were informed by our sales representative concerning Guardsman, a furniture care and service provider. She informed us of Guardsman services to the furniture and consumer industry. The sales rep pointed out that we could purchase Guardsman Elite 5 year furniture protection plan on all pieces of furniture, half or just one piece. Since the most expensive piece that we purchased was the sectional sleeper sofa; my wife and myself decided to add the Guardsman Elite 5 year furniture protection plan to our sectional sofa (service agreement number: E5RG 493110). The sales rep assured us this protection was/is bumper to bumper; even if we were at fault. We don't use the sleeper sofa that much; only when house guest are staying over night. About a month ago, when my wife pulled the sleep sofa out to prep it for a house guest, my wife noticed something out of the ordinary. She noticed the sleeper didn't sit level. I looked around, and found, the frames base at the right section of the sofa (if standing in front of the unit) had some how broken off or detached in some way, causing the right arm rest to become unstable as well as the sleeper; this occurred on a Friday night. On Monday, I contacted Guardsman by phone (1-800-253-3957) to inform them of my findings. The representative I spoke with informed me she would email the form to me. I need to complete the form and mail back within 10 days. I never received any type of email. I contacted Guardsman multiple times, but never received the form I needed to get this issue regarding my sofa resolved. About a month later, I visited Guardsman website and found that you can actually file a claim on-line. (Why didn't the multiple representatives tell me this in the first place?). I completed the on-line claim form and uploaded digital (pictures) images of the damage to our sectional sofa and submitted to Guardsman per there request. I printed the auto generated PDF that was supplied to me via the Guardsman website, signed and placed in US mail. On 8/5/11 I received a call from a representative at Guardsman. The representative informed me that Guardsman does not cover the wooden structural frame of any sofa and or mattress support. She also goes to say; since there was gaps within the reporting period and not professionally reported in a timely matter, this could jeopardize my continued coverage with Guardsman. This made me very upset, not to mentioned the comment that she made about "professionally reporting in a timely manner" really sent me over the edge. I explained to this representative I had not received any type of email when I first reported the issue, that I had called numerous times to receive the document that I was needing to file a claim, and that we don't use the sleeper sofa very often and how was we suppose to know it was damaged; am I suppose to perform a daily, weekly, monthly inspection of the sectional sofa and document any tiny scratch, cut or damage that maybe present? The representative informed me that Guardsman is very demanding with perfect timing of claim reporting and if those guidelines are not followed to the exact T, then the coverage becomes void. None of this information was explained to me at the time of the sale. We were sold on what information was provided to us by the sales rep at In Your Home Furnishings; bumper to bumper and no hassle service. I am extremely upset at the fact the Guardsman rep implied that I am not punctual when it comes to "time". I have read the Guardsmen Elite 5 year furniture protection plan that was provided to me by the sales rep at In Your Home Furnishing. No where does it state about the wood frame of a sofa and whether it's covered or not.
