*Consumer Comment: Halversen Motors Very Well Respected
The repairs listed on the due bill were as follows: Find the source of the problem or problems directly resulting in the illumination of the check engine light and make necessary repairs. Replace the tires on the vehicle, find the cause of a shimmy while applying the break and make necessary repairs. Fix the heating and cooling element that affects the heat in the vehicle. Touch up the paint on the front bumper; check and repair rotors; repair burn on the seat; fill up vehicle with gasoline; and complete alignment. Halverson Motors informed me that they could begin the repairs at the beginning of the week, which in turn became the end of the next week. I stated that I would take my trade home with me and bring it back in to swap when the repairs could be started, and they said NO!, keep the vehicle and get used to driving your soon to be new
car. During the week before the repairs started the salesmen were collecting documents from me necessary to complete
the loan process.
When I dropped the car off for the repairs, I was not given my trade back; I was given a dealership loaner car. At this time the dealership required me to sign a purchase agreement even though the repairs were not yet completed. Halverson Motors said that the reason I was signing a purchase agreement this soon was because they needed to have the deal signed and ready to go by the end of the month to get me the best price available. It was 30 November 2011 on the day that I was dropping off the vehicle for the necessary repairs. This original contract signed did not bear my correct legal name Randi
Taylor-Hannel it clearly read Randi Taylor but the Finance Manager assured me it was just for the date and the contract was not going to be the final contract and that he would reprint the final one back dated to the date I signed this first copy. Unsure what to do, I signed it with heavy reassurance from the staff at Halverson Motors.
While driving the loaner vehicle from Halverson Motors I was harassed by the staff to turn in all necessary documents to complete the loan process. These documents included: a copy of my lease agreement for my residence; the
last 90 days of paycheck stubs, copies of bank statements, a copy of my phone and utility bills, and also a list of references. I will describe the harassment that I endured. Salesman Geno; of Halverson Motors called my cellular and home phone more than 100 times per day for 3 days to obtain the documents needed. When unable to reach me because I was in gilbert staying with a friend during a time of need and had forgotten my cellular phone at home mindfully all those that it was necessary to reach me in case of an emergency had a contact number to reach me at. When he was unable to reach me he then began calling my place of employment. He called my place of employment several times during the day asking for me at times when I was on the clock and times when I was not scheduled. He harassed my immediate supervisor to provide him with an additional contact number or to let him speak to me while I was working when refused and unsatisfied he brought another contract and additional documents to sign to my job and demanded that I sign them immediately or I would be
disqualified from the purchase that was taking place. I had to step away from my register and hurriedly sign the documents to avoid further embarrassment and possible disciplinary actions taken by my employer. The documents I was pressured to sign while on the job were as follows: An odometer disclosure statement (stating that the actual mileage was not disclosed on the odometer) I questioned this before signing it, Geno informed me that this was another tentative document and that the real one would be signed when I came in to sign the final documents and that I could verify that by looking at the bottom of the page and seeing my incorrect name appearing at the bottom, he said sign your legal name and it wont be binding
because the names would not match. The reason the box was checked saying that the mileage was not accurate was due to a system issue they were supposedly going to fix by the time I signed the corrected documents. There was also an As is No warranty Buyers Guide with an attached list of common defects in used vehicles. This was explained as something required by Arizona buyers to sign in the event of a used car purchase. He stated that since I was purchasing an aftermarket warranty for $1300 within the sale, I needed to waive additional support. I also hurriedly filled out the reference sheet and handed it back to him. He left immediately after not causing any further disturbance that day.
I was home later that evening and there was a knock at my door. It was 9:30 pm, far beyond normal business hours. It was the salesman Geno; he was driving my trade vehicle the PT Cruiser and said please open the door we are having an issue with the deal and I need your immediate assistance. Upon opening the door he informed me that he needed the copy of my lease, the bank statements, and also the utility bills and such. I informed him that I did not have the copies yet and I only had the originals. He promised to return them to me ASAP and that he would in fact make the copies for me to save me some time. The very next morning he returned, I was in the shower. He rang my door bell over and over, frightened because he would not leave I called for support from my Boyfriend Dior Partee, he was already on his way to pick me up from my home as we had plans that day. My sons were playing downstairs and I instructed them from the shower to ask the man to call me later and that I was unable to come to the door at that time. He did not leave for over an hour while continuously communicating with my sons through my door to call me downstairs, and repeatedly ringing my doorbell and yelling from outside for me to come downstairs. I was frightened and did not come down until my boyfriend arrived. At this time Geno had left and did not return that day. He did call my phone repeatedly about 40 times; I returned the call after I had calmed down from the stress. He stated that he needed one more bit of information and that was addresses for my references as well as for me to call the bank to let them know I was going to sign the original documents within the next few days as well. I let him know I would acquire them and give him a call back by the end of the business day. Before I returned his call I obtained the addresses and also called the bank to confirm. Upon returning his call I was advised that my vehicle would be available for pick up in the next few days as the repairs were almost finished.
Finally the day arrived for me to pick up my repaired vehicle, I was glad to be rid of the car buying experience I received and happy to be getting into my new car. I checked the repairs by: looking at the tires, they appeared to be used but in far better condition than the last set of tires. Checking the heat in the vehicle to make sure it was blowing both hot and cold air, it was indeed blowing hot and cold air. The burn in the front driver side seat was repaired to my satisfaction. The check engine light was not illuminated and they assured me this was due to multiple repairs and most likely with all the repairs done I would never need to use my extended warranty. The gas tank was filled up to full. I was unable to check the rotors myself but they advised me that not only was the rotors replaced but so were the breaks to correct the shimmy I was feeling. The touch up paint was not completed yet, but I was informed that within a week the paint man would be there and they would
call to schedule the painting around my work schedule. All in all I would say I was satisfied and signed the remaining documents containing my insurance verification and the registration/title application and a power of attorney for matters concerning the motor vehicle department. I test drove the vehicle one last time before delivery to confirm the shimmy was
removed and that the check engine light did not illuminate immediately upon driving the vehicle. The only thing I questioned was the fact that I did not have to resign any of the original signed documents as previously stated to me during the sales process. I was advised that the reason I was not required to resign was because they copied my driver license and the bank approved the discrepancy in my name due to the fact that it was only a hyphenation change and nothing too serious. I accepted delivery of the vehicle at that time.
I called twice to schedule the touch up paint, but due to poor rainy weather conditions in late-December it was delayed. I was contacted by Halverson Motors to come and pick up my license plate for the vehicle in Early-January. I went to pick it up and placed in on my vehicle. I did not receive any notice in the mail that my registration was expiring, but I noticed by the tagging on the plate that it was indeed going to need a renewal. I was confused by this because I believed generally when you purchase a car the tags and title were in the contract. I immediately went on service Arizona to check the cost associated with the renewal and saw that it needed emissions testing before proceeding. I did procrastinate since I had about 10 days before the registration expired, on the date of expiration I went online and printed out a 30 day general use temporary registration to get by until successful completion of the emissions testing. I contacted the dealership with the help of
my Grandfather John Taylor. The dealership told us to go to get the testing completed and they would reimburse me the $27 for the cost of the test with valid receipt.
Before I was able to complete the emissions due to the weekend, my car was immobilized because of broken wheel calipers. I took it to a local repair shop C & R tire on Tatum and Bell road in Scottsdale, Arizona. Rick the service manager
informed me after a diagnostic of the vehicle that there were several ongoing problems that realistically needed immediate attention. The costs would be just over $1200 out of pocket just to complete the mechanical work and that was taking into account the costs that would be absorbed by utilizing my extended warranty. He also informed me that the levels of fluids
and filters were extremely low and dirty and would need to be completely flushed before the vehicle would operate properly. During the diagnostic, the tires were spotted to have been turned around and they were bald on the inner side of
the tires not facing the street. I was unable see that when I was inspecting the vehicle before delivery. The check
engine light fuse was found under the hood not plugged into the vehicle, the fuse was not installed at that time, and I was given the fuse for proof of tampering. I have the fuse in my possession currently and have never reinstalled it in the vehicle. The rotors and breaks showed significant wear as well. During this visit I had him fix the minimal repairs to get me back on the road which only included repairing the calipers. This repair cost me just over $80.
After picking up the car from the service center, I took the vehicle for emissions testing, it failed.
The vehicle failed on numerous counts. I had my grandfather contact Halverson Motors to let them know the condition the vehicle was in and request repairs be made immediately. They informed him that it was not their car any longer, and that it was in fact my vehicle. The stated at that time, that If I did not like the condition the vehicle I purchased was
in, I should have either not purchased it, or to call the bank and they would be glad to pick it up for me. Basically saying to cease payments my car loan and incur repossession if I was no longer satisfied. They referred us back to the contacts I signed, with the AS-IS statements. After my 30 day temporary registration expired. I went immediately to the MVD to acquire my first 90 days temporary registration to buy me some time to work on the issue. I was unable to find a lawyer to
file suit, as the vehicle was high mileage, and also due to the contracts that I did in fact sign. No one informed me of the right to file this title complaint report with the motor vehicle department before my last trip to the MVD on 07/13/2012.
I have experience continued stress and financial hardships maintaining temporary registration and making repairs on the vehicle. I lost my job with the employer I had during the sale of the vehicle due to emotional distress and depression. I have
obtained a new place of employment since then; but I am on the verge of losing this job as well. I have trouble
focusing and its always on my mind when I drive my vehicle which is required every single day. Since this incident I
have been under the care of Psychiatric nurse practitioner Tiffany Jordan of Crisis Preparation and Recovery, I am currently being medicated to handle the depression, anxiety and ongoing stress I am attempting to endure.
