I worked at this hotel for a bout a year, it was the most psychologically and emotionally stressful work environment I've ever been in. The bullying got to the point where I was considering killing myself, but thanks to the help and support of a loved one I finally got out of there and no longer have these thoughts.

Housekeeping manager, 'Louise,' is as evil as they come: She reprimanded me for going over my time limit when I caught a guest beating his wife. She assigned a pregnant housekeeper to the smoking section and took advantage of the girl's learning disability to keep her working. She bullied one of the older housekeepers so severely that this woman had to be hospitalized from the stress.

Louise made fictional complaints to our general manager about the housekeepers, including me. She accused me of stealing things from guests' rooms on at least two occasions, I later talked to the front desk and both times only to find THE GUEST HIM/HERSELF MADE NO SUCH COMPLAINT!

A housekeeping manager is required to inspect the rooms after housekeepers clean them to make sure they are up to standard, then let the front desk know which rooms are good to go: Louise sits in her office all day browsing MySpace on the company computer and talking to her relatives on the company phone. She sits around and does NOTHING all day long while our work goes unchecked, the front desk none the wiser.

My concerns were ignored by the general manager (who no longer works there) and Olympia Inc., and when Louise found out I complained she tried to fire me. She failed horribly when I brought all this to her attention, but even after I put in my notice she and her assistant were still going out of their way to make my working life a living Hell.

If you ever do visit Portland, Maine please do not stay there. The Hampton Inn and Olympia Incorporated are slave drivers and they do not care who they exploit or how badly to get your money.

I worked at the Hampton Inn for over 10 years, several of these years I worked closely with Louise Shaw and find these statements hard to believe.  Obviously this person had/has some mental health issues that I hope were discussed with a professional.  Louise ran a tight ship and some people may not have liked this but this is what lead the Hampton Inn to 4 Outstandings (The highest rating by Hilton Hotels )in a a row during my time with the hotel.  Housekeeping is not any easy job by any means and is not right for everyone.  Working at a hotel that offers a 100% guarantee that if you do not like anything about your hotel stay it will be free means that those rooms needed to be spotless and done so in a certain time allotment.  A housekeeper can not spend 30 minutes for example in a room when he/she has 12 rooms to clean.  Hotels have budgets and yes management expects you to adhere to these time allotments.  If a guest was being abused by her husband this employee should have notified management immediately so that the police could have been notified.

I will say I did not work for Olympia so I can not comment on their management styles but I do want to once again say that when I worked at the Hampton Inn with Louise Shaw she was a professional and dedicated employee who worked long, hard hours, often cleaning rooms herself to help her staff out.  She went out of her way to accomodate her staff with special requests for days off etc.  I honestly feel this is just a disgruntled employee who couldn't keep up with the demands of a physically trying job.
