I went to this school and filled out what I thought was the paper work to enroll my child into a VPK program knowing I would have to pay out of pocket $270.00 per mo. because my child would attend 3 hours per wk. over the VPK 15 hour requirement which is free and paid for through the state.

The school asked my to put a $300.00 deposit to hold my child's spot and had me fill out the enrollment paper work at that time. I signed a contract saying that the deposit was non refundable. Which at the time was fine I had every intention of him going to preschool there.

Some time latter I received a packet in the mail with more contracts one of them said that they required me to pay the full year tuition even if my child did not like it or had to be withdrawn for whatever reason they still want me to pay them.

I called and explained that it was against my principals to sign such a contract because If I withdrew him for what ever reason I did not want to be responsible to pay them for the entire year.

I myself have a private preschool and would never make someone give a deposit and then ask them to sign such a contract after taking their money. It is unethical and flat out deceitful. The owner is refusing to give me my deposit back and I told her that I would fight for the principal of it.

Many years later...

AUTHOR: momof2 - (United States of America)

The truth continues to come out when it comes to this former school and it's owner.  The teachers at Hand in Hand were great teachers, but the owner/director has proven that she is the sole reason for the schools demise.

A few years ago, one of the teachers at Hand in Hand "ran into me" at a local establishment and openly divulged that it was common for her checks to bounce due to insufficient funds.  (This was my child's former teacher at Hand in Hand.)

All anyone has to do is "google" Hand in Hand Academy and the latest information will come up about how teachers and workers around the school weren't paid for what they did at the school.  The latest information, according to the Tampa Tribune on 10/11/11, is that parents paid for this year's tuition at Hand in Hand and the owner/director readily accepted their money even after knowing she had accepted a position as a principal in Wisconsin at a charter school earlier in the summer.  The school closed in Sept 2011 and parents are left with empty pockets and the former owner/director claims she has no money to refund.

The Wisconsin school board should keep a good eye on Wendy Alexander at the charter school where  she is currently the principal and make sure ALL money is spent in the correct manner.  From what happened at Hand in Hand, I'm surprised any school board would even hire her.

This is ridiculous

I have had two children attend Hand In Hand Academy. I signed the same paper for both of my children. I did read and understand that the money was non-refundable as did you. This is not uncommon at many schools across the county.

Maybe you should have thought more carefully about this before committing to this school. Next time you sign your name to any contract, you should carefully read it so that you understand all the big words contained within, such as "non-refundable"

Hand In Hand has done nothing wrong. You on the other hand showed poor judgement by signing a contract which you did not fully understand, even though you stated that you DID read the words "non refundable." Its not Hand In Hands fault that you changed your mind.

Get over it. By the way, how much money did it cost you to have someone babysit your children while you were picketing at a childrens preschool for two days?

Also, you stated that you own your own preschool? Did you not have enough trust and faith in your own school to just keep your child there?

Also--you should consider using spell check.

Sincerely
Amy W
