I cant believe I came across this report, it brang back very sad memories. 3 years ago I purchased a puppy from Happiness is pets (breeder was Steve Kruse) he was a Silkey Poo, I can not tell you how great this puppy was. we loved him he housebroke to our dog door in 2 weeks, never mouthed, bit or chewed anything was super calm and quiet and he LOVED our kids.

After 4 months of loving him, he quickly fell sick as in overnight and died. We were devistated. However the manager did pay for an autopsy and the results were heart and lung failure. he responded that is wasnt conclusive but he would give me another puppy at a discount. I told him I had no more money and after a while he said he would give me a puppy. They really had no breeds that we wanted but we had to choose we ended up with a shishtzu that was terrified of our other dog and it only got worse as time went on so we has to find another home for him. I hope this helps you. Please dont buy from a pet shop. Go to a rescue.

So, I'm curious, what's your story? Why am I being laid into for leaving a comment on a post that had to do with this store?

Um, why do I feel like I am being attacked for using common sense and being reasonable and informed? Do you think I know them or am affiliated with them somehow? I do not, and am not. I do however have an extensive working knowledge of animals in general, and the internet with which to research things. I do not neccesarily disagree with you, but I do not arbitrarily assume wrongness where the facts of a specific situation say otherwise. Maybe there is evidence of wrongdoing elsewhere, maybe not. I was however commenting on this specific posting, and your responses to me don't make much sense when I take that into consideration. Also I believe you can check out the article doggy in the window at the website for the American Animal Welfare Society for the results of an unbiased study which I also believe was published by the AVMA.
*No matter what you say, it's a fact that puppy mill dogs are NOT HEALTHY! - Do not now, nor have I ever disputed that fact.
*What are YOU talking about???? THESE ARE PUPPY MILL DOGS! - Maybe, possibly, even probably, but that does not change the actual facts in this specific case as stated, which is what I was commenting and responding too.
*This puppy died because it was born in a PUPPY MILL!! - easy to say, but again, the facts in this specific circumstance as stated in no way prove this. The puppy was in the owners care and control for several months, did not pass as a result of an illness which was present at the time of sale, or soon after, nor was it proved that the puppy passed of anything having to do with poor or unethical breeding, and in fact looked otherwise to me, nor did the seller break any contracts and agreements that would be to their detriment. The results were in favor of the complainant, and this was to their benefit, as I don't believe they were required by law or contract to do what they did. They fullfilled their obligations and then some.
*Too bad, this store is going down......and you know it. - Maybe. But you will most likely have to work within the law to do this, and it is admirable if this is your goal and they deserve it. But I believe the basis of most law is what is reasonable? Overzelousness doesn't tend to get you too far in that arena, and you will most likely need reasonable facts to back up your cause. So, that means cases such as above, do not likely prove your cause. Items that tend to be breed specific (it is reasonable to expect particular health problems with certain breeds), part of pet ownership (if you only expect to pay for shots and spay and neuter and such, this is NOT reasonable to me, and you should probably own a stuffed animal instead, as we are dealing with living things and all that entails), incidences in which the store upheld the law and the contract, possible owner at fault, or incidences in which there is no way to know what really ocurred are most likely NOT going to further your cause, and may in fact ensure you are taken LESS seriously if presented too often, and argued in the extreme. Local judgements do not have to be the final outcome, and it can go all the way to the supreme court. Also, if to many rediculous cases are brought up, and overturned, with all the same people involved, it may seem the store is being unfairly persecuted and harrassed, and something may be done about it. Those higher up who are aiding you in your cause, may no longer be able to aid, if everything begins to seem unreasonable in the extreme, and I have seen it all happen. There may have been different outcomes, if things had been gone about in a different manner, and that can be VERY sad. maybe you folks have found a way around it. I am not aware of what steps you are taking, and what you are using as actual facts in this cause, nor how involved you are in this cause, or if you are just a supporter. But, like I said, I have seen it. And hopefully, this will not be the case. You will also most likely have to work within the guidelines set in order to stop this breeder or broker or whoever he is. At this point, I feel compelled to note that I am not a lawyer or other like proffesional, and am simply stating my own opinions and experiencies, and observations. Please consult a proffesional.:-). And that is also really sad to me, but a different subject.
*And there is NOTHING YOU CAN DO ABOUT THAT! - When did I say I wanted to?
*Just my opinions*

That was my point

AUTHOR: Me - (U.S.A.)

The animal was not sick when purchased according to the post. The animal was great according to the post. The animal died unexpectedly SEVERAL MONTHS LATER. The animal was NOT ill. There was no proof that it had ANYTHING to do with the pet store. The pet store actually went ahead and PAID for the necropsy, when the results of that STILL could not be linked back to the pet store, and in fact, looked more like something that had occurred in the owners home, they STILL went ahead and GAVE them another puppy. Again, look at the facts stated, puppy bought, puppy NOT sick, puppy GREAT, Puppy dies suddenly (probably ate something), store paid for necropsy when a puppy died MONTHS after purchase (this is not common at any time, from ANY seller), Necropsy does not show any hereditary or congenital defect, or ANYTHING that could be blamed on the store, and he STILL gives them another dog (probably felt bad they were so sad). And in return, this person COMPLAINS? And they think a rescue would do better for them? LMAO. So yes, in this case, SHAME ON THEM. What sort of person slaps someone in the face for showing them kindness when almost anyone else would have told them they were not responsible, it had been PROVEN (and even PAID for the proving), so sorry I can't help you? It has nothing to do with where they buy their puppies, it has to do with the stores kindness to these people in this case, and the fact that they had done nothing wrong, and what they got in return. When one of my dogs passes, will you pay for a necropsy, and give me several hundred dollars for, or buy me a new dog even though we both know none of it has to do with you? And then how will you feel if I show my gratitude by telling people how horrible you are? Do you think that would be fair? Because that is essentially what happened here. So yes, SHAME ON THEM.

Las Vegas??? Ashamed of herself???? She was sold a sick dog that DIED from a puppy mill. You should be ashamed of YOURSELF for supporting cruelty, abuse and neglect that this horrid store seems to make money on.

The same breeders from Petland sells to Happiness is pets.

Actually, sounds like they went above and beyond for you

AUTHOR: Me - (U.S.A.)

There was no proof that that animal died of anything having to do with the store. In fact, it is very UNLIKELY. It very likely ate something, and they STILL gave you another puppy out of kindness and customer service, and then you complain on them? Shame on you! Why do more than is required of you if this sort of thing is what you get from it? It's things like this that make people in the animal industry so bitter and jaded with the human race.
