Harrington Group LLC Jason Harrington II Fake law firm acting as a collection agency - address is a vacant lot Houston Texas

I received a letter from The Harrington Group LLC stating that they were willing to settle an outstanding balance of a $2310 loan for only $770.  There was no mention of who made the loan to me or when I took out the loan.  It is a typical attempt at getting the unsuspecting to pay a bill with threats of legal action. It was certainly not compliant with the FDCPA.

I did a simple Google search and could find no internet listing for The Harrington Group LLC or anyone named Jason Harrington II.  Even better, the address listed at the top of the letter seems to be a vacant lot in Houston Texas based on last sumnmer's Google Street View.

I called the number and played dumb.  I asked for Mr. Harrington and was told he was in court.  (Hmm, he must be a lawyer).  Mr. Brooks said he would be happy to help.  I told him I wanted to pay the bill and needed instructions on how to make the payment. He gave me detailed instructions on sending a certified check to a PO Box and to send it via Express Mail so it could be tracked.  Also, I was to call him back with the tracking number once it had been mailed.

I said I would take care it that afternoon, but I had a few questions first.  I told him my friend who works for one of the local judges told me to get the name of the local attorney (since Harrington is in Texas and I am in a different state) who would be filing the court summons, as indicated in the letter, if I didn't pay.

Mr Brooks said I was not entitled to that information.  I then asked him how he can conduct business from a vacant lot which is what is visible on Google Maps for his listed address.  He got really angry and told me I was waisting his time and then humg up on me.

I have filed a complaint with the US Postal Instpector because they are receiving stolen and fraudulent funds via the mails.  I also reached out to a Houston television station's xonsumer reporter with my story.  I want to do whatever I can to stop these scam artists from victimizing anyone else.
