I went to Havoline Express Lube to take advantage of the advertised "women's day" on Wednesday, the advertised discount for women was a 20 dollar oil change.

As soon as I pulled up, I was bombarded with additional services that I should get beyond the 20 dollar oil change I wanted. The mechanic told me he could give me a 59.99 dollar oil change, I declined. Then he asked how my windsheild wipers were and if they needed to be replaced. He looked it over and said it did and he would do it for 20 dollars. Again I declined. When I got inside another worker came over to me to "go over" my car, then he recommended all these additional services I "needed", again I declined.

A few minutes later someone else, came in and said that my car need a specific type of oil. He said that this oil was better for my car and better for mileage and it would cost "a little bit more" than the oil currently used. I said okay thinking that he was referring to high mileage oil and that a "little bit more" was may 5-10 dollars. When I get to the register they have my bill at 89.99! The oil that would "cost a little bit more" was 79.99 dollars! There is NO WAY I would have agreed to that price if they would have told me how much it cost. I came there expecting to pay 20 dollars for a simple, routine oil change and instead I am hit with a bill for 90 dollars!?!?

I told the cashier that I was not told about the price and that I would have never paid that price had I been told the amount and not be lead to believe that this was the REQUIRED oil for my car. He went and talked to the worker who had talked to me about the oil change. He came back and said the guy confirmed my story and that I had agreed to the high priced oil. He admitted that he didn't explain it in detail.

The cashier told me that he was sorry for the misunderstanding and he would give me $10 dollars off. I said I didn't feel like it was fair for me to pay for something I didn't approve, but that since there was nothing I could do it about it I would pay for it and NEVER come back. Then, he said he could give me a $20 dollar discount and leave a note that next time I need to get the regular high mileage not the $79 kind. I took it because I was so angry I was very close to making a scene and doing real stupid.

It is abundantly clear to me that they advertise the "20 dollars off for women" so that unsuspecting women can come and get bombarded with all this routine maintenance that needs to be done on their car and agree to it and end up leaving paying way more than 20 dollars. Sad to say, I felt discriminated against as a woman and taken advantage of. I thought this was America. I feel so insulted at how this company lured me by advertising a good deal on an oil change, only to weasle more money out of me that I wouldn't normally spend. Then because of an error by their employee, I am forced to pay money I didn't have for a service I never would have approved if it hadn't been presented in a deceptive manner.

NEVER AGAIN! NEVER AGAIN!

ISSUE RESOLVED

AUTHOR: Mrs. Jean - (United States of America)

POSTED: Wednesday, March 28, 2012

I was able to track down a customer survey to voice my complaints. That survey went straight to the Operations Manager and he resolved my issue. I am completely satisfied with their response. They took my complaint seriously and affirmed that they were committed to keeping me as a customer. It is refreshing to see that type of customer service. That is how it should always be done.
