On October 17, 2009 my husband and I went to Haynes Furniture in Newport News, VA and spoke with a salesman Duane Taylor.  We put down a $400.00 deposit on a leather recliner and matching sofa.  The sofa had to be special ordered because the one in the store was a sofa/sleeper and we did not want that, we wanted a sofa/recliner.  We signed a contract that said because it was a special order we could not change our minds and if we did we would lose the $400 deposit.  We were given an estimation date of when the sofa would be in as November 30, 2009.  That date came and passed and the salesman continuously kept giving us the run around.  We had to call him and question about the furniture.  Christmas time rolled around and I called again and was told that it was on its ways from overseas, but didn't know where it was or when it would be in.  I kindly asked him to keep us updated as to what was going on.  That lasted for about 3 week, he would call and let us know and then by January it had stopped.  When I called back again in January I was told that it was still not in, but was on it's way. 

Called back in February and was told it was somewhere, and would be here shortly, and if we wanted we could go ahead and come in and pay the balance of $1200.  I told Mr. Taylor I was not going to pay for the futniture until it got here.  He said he would call back either Wednesday or Friday of that week.  Never heard a thing from him.  Three weeks later (today) I called and left Mr. Taylor a voicemail that he said he was going to call back on Wednesday or Friday and he had failed to do that I this was ridiculous I wanted to know what was going on with our furniture.  The attorney in our office called Haynes for me and spoke with Mr. Taylor and he told her he called us last week and left a message that our sofa was in, but now they had given our chair to someone else because we had not paid the balance and they work on a "first come first serve" basis and the leather chair won't be in for 2 weeks.  But, he told her if we did not come and pay the balance in full for the sofa then they were not holding the sofa for us either.  So, they were ordered as a set, but yet if I don't pay for furniture that is not here and have been given no date they are coming in, they give the furniture to someone else.  They are a ripoff!  The attorney called the store manager and he did not return her call.
