I have an older friend who's occupation is in technical support engineering. He's bright, intelligent, and brilliant with computers. He was laid off from his job with a well known company in 2005 and since then he cannot find work in his field. He worked for Radio Shack for 5 years in retail but he had to take a drastic cut in pay. He decided to update his career in computer science and he enrolled at Heald College to get Information Technologies certifications. He went through the program with the financial aide assistance and he graduated with an A average along with many honors. However, after he graduated he was in debt with Heald College but they are helping him with it.

Here is the big question. My friend is 63 years old and Heald College career center told him that they would help him find a job in Information Technology or Technical Support in Fresno after he graduated. He graduated on October 2011 and they have not helped him yet. He has gone on some interviews but for some reason he did not get these jobs.  We are believing it might be age discrimination but we are wondering if Heald College career center is not helping him due to his age.  He is in debt to the federal government for over $10,000.00. I am wondering what our solutions are and if we should consult an attorney or go to EEOC? Does anyone know about any class action lawsuits against Heald College? We are consumers and we bought these classes at Heald College through student loans so that my friend could "Get In, Get Out, and "Get Ahead" with his career.

Your friend probably IS a victim of age discrimination, but that would be on the employer, not Heald.

Based on other reports about school career placement offices, your friend's experience isn't unusual. They can only do so much, and it's usually not a lot more than you can do yourself (e.g., searching the internet, etc.)

If your friend thinks he's been a victim of age discrimination with an employer THEN he should contact the EEOC. Don't expect a lot of help though. Employers are very crafty in selecting employees to avoid breaking the law.

I'm not sure what you hope to gain by filing a class action lawsuit...?
