On January 18th I received a call from a number that said 000-000-0000. I accidentally answered it because i was on the phone with my mother (because she was in the hospital at the time) and pushed the accept button instead of the "send to voicemail" button. Some lady with a very heavy accent (middle eastern like india or something) said that she was calling from the IRS and because I've been such a good tax payer over the last couple of years, I would receive $2,000 from the government.

I was excited because i would be able to pay of my last 2 credit cards and put some money down on my car that i'm paying for(get caught up on all the Christmas shopping haha). She told me that all she needed was my routing, account numbers and the name of my bank. I told her i would rather have them send me a check in the mail and she said she couldnt do that because it would take longer and checks sometimes get lost on desks, etc. I told her that since she could not send me a check (because the IRS gives you the option for taxes) that i would not give out my bank info. I told her that i just got my new account 2 weeks ago and i still wouldnt give it out to her anyways. And she tried to reassure me that my info wouldnt be given out to anyone because she was from the government. I hung up on her. They continously tried calling me back all afternoon with "unknown" and 000-000-0000 numbers.

I was shopping and my friend Justine called me asking me why i gave out her name and cell phone to some place that sounded way too sketchy. I asked her what she was talking about and she told me that some lady with an "indian" accent called her and said that I!!!!! referred her to Justine because she has been such a great tax payer over the years. I told Justine that i never gave any info out to this lady and finally after talking for a half an hour we hung up.

Then my friend Octavia called me asking me the same thing. I didnt know what to do since i didnt give out any info to anyone and what bothered me was that she was calling their cell phones saying i referred them. I reassured her and told her the same thing that I told Justine. All the while, these people were still calling me with all sorts of numbers for the last 4 hours.

So Octavia called the 24/7 number for the REAL IRS and told them about the situation and they said they have had a lot of calls about them and if they already have your name and address they probably already have your bank account info. They said to get your bank accounts changed.

Well with my mom in the hospital, me taking care of her animals and housework, visting her in the hospital everyday and waiting for her after her surgeries, changing my account slipped my mind. But I did call Bank of America the day i got the call, ahead of time to let them know of the situation and i told them how they wanted my routing and account numbers and they said something about a 29.95 charge. I told the lady that i had no idea what the name of company would be since they said they were from the IRS. She said for a whole year anything as a check with an amount of 29.95 would be returned.

After a couple of days, i had a 29.95 charge PENDING on my account. So i called Bank of America again and reexplained the situation and he told me that the lady i talked to put it as an automatic draft from the account. So he told me to check in the morning to see if it was still there. I did and it went through my account. I couldnt call about at all that day because i was running late for work and i was working a 12 hour shift. So i looked on my account the following day and it was returned. I was relieved.

The number for National healthnet that the women with the funny accent that i could never understand the name was 1-866-923-3611. That number isnt right because it just gives you this fast busy signal. So i looked up national health net and i found this site with the right number and i called canceled my supposed subscription today. The lady on the phone said this was my last day in the 7 day "free" trial but what i could recall the "IRS" it was a 10 day trial. How nice is that? I would've been charged $300.00 if i didnt call by today....
