HealthPort Healthport is billing for transfer of medical records to specialist. My Dr. even says not to pay because it was an internal referral. Dr. office called to stop the billing, but they are still billing Alpharetta, Georgia

I live in Virginia. My Dr. referred me to a specialist in same building.  A few weeks later I get a bill of $50.64 from a Georgia company named HealthPort saying they transferred medical records for me.  I never heard of them so tore up the bill.

A few weeks later I got another bill from them admonishing me for not paying.  Checked with my Dr. who said there is no charge for transfer of medical records when she refers me to a specialist and not to pay.

I called HealthPort who said the Dr's practice would have to call them to cancel the bill.  My Dr's office manager did call them and then told me the bill was cancelled.

Today I get another bill from HealtPort.  They know i am 70 years old and must think I have Alzheimers and will eventually pay them.  This is a scam and this company is very shoddy.

HealthPort Ripoff

AUTHOR: PhoenixRising - (United States of America)

POSTED: Wednesday, June 15, 2011

I recently transferred Dr in an attempt to get all of my services needed in one building by one Dr.

Once I became a patient I was asked to signed an in house form listing all my previous Dr's so that all my records could be transferred.  I was also asked to to sign a release to RHMO which is an online medical records site that every Dr's I saw used.

I used this online site for years and never had an issue of paying for records or transfers as most Dr's. just hit a link on a PC and everything was there in seconds.

Somehow this company called HealthPort got a hold of the first paper form I signed which listed all my previous Dr's names on and decided to send me a packet asking me send them a check so I could get copies of my medical record. I didn't need copies from a secondary site so I set the packet aside and thought nothing of until I began getting bills in the mail  to pay for medical records transfers.

After three separate bills I began calling the company only to get hung up on several times. When I finally got thru a real person I explained my situation to the representative over and over again. I am disabled and on SSD which barely covers basic bills and co-pays for medications. After 45 minutes she finally agreed to erase the smallest bill off of my account and take me out of collections.

Pretty sad when a scammer is so desperate for money that they steal dr's files and then threaten to put disabled people in collections.
