This report is regarding the obsurd racism this General Contractor continues to display. Hensel Phelps Construction Co. out of Greeley, Colorado is still continuing to harrass and display acts of racism towards non-whites and females.
The "Good ol' boy" network has continued to treat others as second class citizens when it comes to pay, promotion and positions of management. To this very day, there is only 1 african american engineer within the plains district and none in management. There are no women in leadershio roles after the firing of Teryn Edwards who was an executive.
During a upper management meeting Taryn voiced her option about some things and several older white men who disagreed with her not happy. The next few days, everyone in the plains district recieved emails saying Taryn Edwards will no longer be with us and to not communicate with her in anyway!
She was mistreated and wrongfully terminated and sued the good ol' boys and won! She now leads a strong team over with Saunders Construction Co. a strong GC who's much better than Phelps.
Compared to other districts (SoCal, NorCal, MADO) the plains district continue to show no concern about promoting hispanics, African American, Indian ect. When you do a tour of the Corporate office, you will not see any diversity throughtout the building, all whites.
I understand they did give a disable guy a chance several years back, who is now one of the Chief Estimators. Pitty parties don't count. I bet that building is still not ADA compliance!
I understand that only African american engineer they had for 6 years, just quit because of racial discrimination. He was never promoted unlike his younger white counterparts, even though he was there several years longer. I understand he was not trained, nor treated the same as others when It came to understanding new policies and processes. After 6 years with the company, he was still at an entry level position while other whites were promoted to PE or AS when he was well qualified for those same positions.
Hensel Phelps continues to bully the small guys around. They hire subcontractors who are not fully qualified, bt yet it saves them loads of money without being to conspicuous. They use tactics that are covered up in the bid room and as older white men patrol the room demanding lower rates from subcontractors and then if the project is not awarded, they have the nerve to get upset at those in the room who tried.
They don't get awarded jobs because of their sneaky tactics and bullying ways! When they arrive at a project to show support, they arrive with all white men who have ths arrogant stroll and nothing more. They have no diversity whatsoever!
They are currently under investigation by the EEO as of 2013 for discrimination and several other violations. How can a company that big in todays world operate WITHOUT an Human Resource? This company has severl districts and other disctrics are strongly diversed and seem to operate just fine.
From what I have read and understand, a company without a HR department is just looking to be sued somwtime down the road for millions, and it appears to be happening right now!
This company has issues with diversity, race, women and being fair to other small subcontrctors. DO NOT LET THIS GC WORK ON YOUR PROJECT, THEY WILL ABUSE IT!
