How the story really went

AUTHOR: Casey - ()

POSTED: Wednesday, April 17, 2013

The $120 and $60 is for a repair made in Feb. for replacing an O2 sensor. The $120 labor consists of $88 diagnosis and $32 to remove and install the new part. The vehicle came in with a concern of a check engine light on. I would also like to note we gave the customer a $29 credit from his Owner Advantage Rewards card towards the repair.

Below is the technician's notes from the repair order:

Correction: PCM SELF TEST-DTC P0153 PRESENT

PERFORM PINPOINT TEST

REPLACED HO2S21(LEFT BANK UPSTREAM)02 SENSOR CLEAR AND RETEST

Now, on Apr. 12, (not week later) the vehicle returned with a check engine light on.

Below are the technicions notes from the repair order:

Correction: VERIFIED CEL ON/ CHECKED CODES/ P0304 AND P0316 IN MEMORY/ PERFORMED POWER BALANCE TEST/ MISS ON #4 CYL./ PERFORMED RELATIVE COMPRESSION/ #4 LOW/PERFORMED HYDRO CARBON TEST/ FAILED/ CHECKED PLUG ON #4/ SOAKED WITH COOLANT/ INSPECTED WITH BORESCO
PE/ UNABLE TO DETERMINE SOURCE OF COOLANT/ RECOMMEND REMOVAL OF LEFT CYLINDER HEAD FOR FURTHER INSP

Now, the engine was missfiring because of the fouled out spark plug from being soaked from coolant getting in the #4 cylinder over a period of time. When he put the new plug in, of course it will run perfect. I take great pride in the intregretiy of my shop and I want the true facts to be known.
