My experience with this company was almost exactly as other describe. It took Heritage 18 months to complete my website. When it was finally "live" I did not immediately chek to see if it could be googled. Customers called me to complain they could not find my site. To my disgust, I found Heritage had failed to make my site available to search engines.

I found out from my friend's husband (he builds websites) that my site did not contain a page containing metatags. The tags enable search engines like google to find and list your websites presence on the web.

I contacted Heritage and asked them to correct the problem. They told me they did not "promote" websites. I explained I only wanted what they had agreed to provide in the beginning - a presence on the web with search engines able to find me. I had talked about this frequently as the site was being built. They had assured me they would provide that service. Why they don't is puzzling since their site can be googled.

When I complained they shut down my site without my agreement. They refused to refund the $700 I paid for the site. This has cost me a lot in business. The web address is in the phone book and when customers go there it is shut down. Very embaressing. They don't call me. My income has dropped as a result.

#3 UPDATE EX-employee responds

Positive Reply from owner of company? don't make me laugh

AUTHOR: employee27 - (United States of America)

POSTED: Wednesday, May 19, 2010

I've worked with this company for 8 months as a designer and know lots of people that's been employed by this company, and let me tell you.  This place is the sweat shops for designers.

First, just like everyone says here.  Designers have to meet Quota.  which is one site every 30 Mins.

Now 30 mins seems like a decent number on paper but other things come into factor such as reviewing sites, fixing spacing/formatting, and other little things that add up time.

30 minutes to make a website is basically a copy/pasted website with no creativity/effort.

the supervisors go around and ask designers if they finish their site EVERY 30 MINUTES. if they havent, they'll get talked to and after a few times they'll be fired.   this just puts too much pressure to the designer and force them to make half-assed designs.

that's just the half of it.

the other half is for when the customers call back for changes on their 30min websites.   these requests are put in the designer's queue to be worked on WHEN WE HAVE FREE TIME. which most of the time we don't, unless we get lucky and get assigned to design 20 lawn mowing company websites (we just use the same design over and over, changing very little)

so even the tiniest request like changing font color, or deleting a word can take WEEKS or even MONTHS, only because of the fact that the designer is put on too much pressure with the NEW clients.

they're too cheap to hire a team of site editors to make these changes, once a site is assigned to a designer, it's assigned to him forever so all future changes are his responsibility.

MANY people call and complain but there's not much we can do when we have supervisors breathing down our neck threatening our job.

this company is all about QUANTITY and new clients, they dont care about current clients at all, unless you're asking for a flash banner or something that cost you extra $500 or more. ridiculous prices i know.

when i stopped working for this company i couldnt even use 80% of my work from this place to my portfolio because of how rushed those designs were.  i feel really bad for ALL their customers to be honest.  they're getting bad quality for ridiculous prices.  they're all getting ripped off by the subscription pricing most people dont know they got hooked into ($20+ a month for regular site? wow, godaddy will host it for $2 a month)

if you want QUALITY website, don't waste your money on heritage.

Here is why your having these probles ex-employee comments

HEY HERITAGE IS THIS WHY PEOPLE ARE COMPLAINING ABOUT GETTING RIPPED OF BY YOUR COMPANY? MAYBE YOU NEED TO SLIM DOWN THE SALE FORCE AND BULK UP ON THE QUALIFIED TECHS! LET PEOPLE GET WHAT THEY PAID FOR!

INSTEAD OF THE JUNK YOU PUT OUT, PAY THE TECHS MORE, AND YOUR ATTORNEY LESS, AND STOP PATTING YOURSELF ON THE BACK COMMENTS LIKE THAT OF BRAD STONE TELLING PEOPLE HOW WONDERFUL YOU ARE IS A BIT SELF SERVING ISN'T IT. GET OF RIPOFFREPORT.COMS BACK THEY PROVIDE A PUBLIC SERVICE THAT PEOPLE NEED AND COMPANIES LIKE YOURS HATES

CAN YOU EXPLAIN THE EMPLOYEE COMPALINTS AND COMMENTS AWAY?
OR ARE THEY FICTICIOUS, THEY CAME FROM THE SITE WHERE MR. STRONG, SINGING YOUR COMPANYS PRAISE. MAYBE HE IS OUR IMAGINATION.

I doubt that they will go anywhere. They have a horrible reputation with their ex employees. They are all about quantity, they could care less about quality. Their managers push to get over 30 live a day, 30! They want a design (banner and layout) done in 30 minutes, and the HTML page done within 20 minutes, for every site!

How can you get good quality work with that? Once a client has "approved" their site, and maybe a couple days later wants a change, good luck, it takes at least 2-3 weeks to get the easiest things taken care of. They are understaffed for the ammount of clients they hold. They are a cheap company, paying designers crap for what they get put through. They won't hire more to cover what they need, instead they will overwhelm their employees.

After working with them for over a year I would strongly reccomend to anyone not to use their company. Look somewhere else. Smaller companies might not be as well known, but chances are they have more one on one time with you in providing a good website.

Heritage is not a fun environemnt to work at. I personally worked there for a year, if it wasn't for a great boss that I loved then I probably wouldn't have stayed. I felt over worked and under paid. They have a lot of clients, Heritage needs to hire more people to cover their clientel. Heritage asks that every designer finish a design (layout and banner) in 30 minutes, and the HTML on the page in 20. It's hard to give quiality work when your on a time frame.

It's stressful. It can be fun, but for the most part, pure stress. It's hard to work with people breathing down your neck

Brad Stone - CEO in Provo, Utah / owner/cceo of heritage/ self serving comment ?

I may be bias with my comments of Heritage Web Solutions (HWS), due to my position, but I love working here. Like any other company, HWS has had its challenges and struggles, but it has overcome all of them with great results. I can't speak for all the 170+ employees who work here, but I can share a few of the many comments I receive from them. They love their jobs. They are satisfied with their compensation and benefits. They love the challenges of creativity and development. It has been the best place they have worked.

We have a great company that is steadily growing. I don't know of another Web Design and Hosting company that can honestly say that.

Warmest Regards,

Brad Stone/CEO ( this guy is an owner of the company is her biasist?)

The 170 + employees is a little far fetched. More like 30 designers, and then account managers, the majority is their sales department. As for a design team that actually takes care of the sites, there isn't much.

Average start for pay is generally low for what a typical designer would be paid. Or any position....
went in and applied. They had an open position a month later and I was hired. Careful if you have a hard time working under high ammounts of pressure, and getting in trouble frequently when not meeting quota.
