Hewlett Packard appears to be deliberately not honoring there advertised rebate with a scheme of lies, delay tactics, and using rebate service representatives that speak unintelligible English.

I purchased a Hewlett Packard Computer on November 27, 2006, from Fry's Electronics in Alpharetta, Georgia.

Model Number: HP Pavilion a1620n
Serial Number: MXX6420G1G

At the time of purchase there was a $50.00 rebate advertised: Offer # DT01013. I mailed in the rebate on December 7, 2006, with my customer name and address clearly and correctly printed on the Rebate Form provided by Fry's Electronics. When I had not received the rebate by February 15, 2007, I called 1-888-385-5410 to inquire about its status. The rebate service representative, who spoke only broken, almost unintelligible, English said that my rebate was mailed on December 21, 2006. However, the service representative claimed that they used COURT in the street name instead of DRIVE and that is why I had not received my rebate. Other address information was verified during this call and appeared to be correct, including spelling of name and street. The representative said that she would have to issue a stop check and that it would be another 6 weeks before I would receive a replacement check.

When I still had not received my rebate check by March 15, 2007, I once again called 1-888-385-5410. This time I was told that my name was misspelled and that a new check would have to be issued because I would not be able to cash it even if I did receive it. However, the rebate representative said I would have to wait until March 22 to make the request. I asked to speak to the supervisor. The supervisor, when reading the address back to me said the street name was spelled incorrectly. She further informed me that there was nothing she could do to reconcile this 3-month-old problem. She said I should call CUSTOMER CARE at 1-800-474-6836. However, when I called this number I found that it is HP TECHNICAL SUPPORT and NOT a customer service number.

These tactics, if used with all customers, appears to be an attempt by Hewlett Packard to ware down it's customers into relinquishing their rebates. At $50 per customer, this would be significantly profitable for Hewlett Packard and warrants criminal investigation.
