I've purchased three compaq PC's in my life. Two desktops and one laptop. NONE of them lived much beyond the warranty. I remember when Compaq used to stand for quality - When they were IBM's direct competitor in the 80's. Now they are the crap at the bottom of the clearance bins at any local computer store...
And I was sucker enough to by one from TigerDirect. My warranty was 90 days. Today is day 93. HP refuses to honor the warranty even though there should be some slack in the warranty for shipping.
Anyway, I'm just disgusted with the whole thing. If you EVER think about buying a compaq or HP product, I would tell you to steer clear. Compaq stands for crap and HP won't back it up.
Good luck if you decide to buy something they sell.

Warranty

Was the warranty provided directly from HP or from elsewhere? Since it was only a 90 day warranty I take it that it's a refurbished unit. You failed to explain what exactly was wrong with the computer. Are you sure it was a manufacturer's defect and not user error?
Typically warranties are activated the day or purchase, not the day you take delivery. Regardless if this was 20 minutes after the expiry or 20 years afterwards, you're still not covered.
At the end of the day, I say that's what you get for buying the $299 refurb class C computer special on TigerDirect and not reading or understanding the warranty for your product.
By the way, if HP/Compaq is such crap and always failed immediately after warranty coverage expired, why exactly did you buy yet a third computer from them?
