After purchasing a 35" big screen TV and an extended warranty, the TV started having problems. I called service and they sent a technician out who determined that it should go into the shop for repair. After waiting two days for them to pick it up (they assured me that they would be at my house on one day and never called for two days, then showed up--I work during the day).

They had my TV for 3 months and after numerous calls to the service center, they told me that the TV was blowing resistors so they had to keep ordering the resistor (one at a time which took 3 weeks to get). Now we are running into the Christmas/New Years holidays. After the new year, they informed me, after several more phone calls, that they had to order the resistors from Taiwan and their factory there was closed for two weeks for the new year. Now we are up to 5 months. I finally got my television back after 5+ months in services.

Two months later, the TV did the same thing and I went through the same process again for another 3 months. This continued for a year. I purchased the extended warranty with the "Lemon Clause" in it. AFter the third time of it going out, I informed HHGregg that I wanted a replacement. They indicated that the "lemon clause" dictates five separate service calls for the same problem. I send numerous letters to the head of Thompson Electronics regarding this. On the fifth service call, the technician who would call me ahead of time to see what the TV was doing and got to know me very well, indicated that he was not going to come out and that he personally was going to put in for a replacement to be shipped to me immediately. He was a great technician - the replacement was delivered 5 weeks later after I placed a few more phone calls to the service center and the story where I purchased it from.

When I finally received a phone call regarding delivery of the replacement TV, they first told me that they could not replace my 35" TV since that model was no longer available but could replace it with a 32". I told them that if they didn't bring me a 35" or bigger, I would take this further.

None the less, I have a 36" TV which has been performing perfectly since 1997. I said I would never purchase anything from HHGregg ever again, but I ended up purchasing a JVC digital camcorder from them last year. I am now in need of having it repaired (under warranty) and will look elsewhere for the repairs/cleaning to be done. After the TV incident, I will never purchase another item from HHGregg unless there is nowhere else to purchase such an item.
