I took my car to Hillyard's because it was not running. They had my car for seven days before returning it to me. When I did get my car back the check engine light was stuck on and the heat no longer worked. Niether of these things were wrong with my car before I took it to them.

I went back to them to ask why these things were a problem and was told bring it back we'll fix it. When I asked if it would be fixed the same day I was told that, " I will have it looked at but I'm not a magician." When I told him that I needed my car as soon as possible I was then told, " It's not a must for me to get it done I'll see what we can do."

I find this behaivior completly unacceptable, and don't want to take the risk of taking my car back to him for another seven days to have problems that did not exist to begin with.

Consumer Advise to RipOff #4024.
COnsumer Advise sent by RobertSokol@badbusinessbureau.com. Robert is a Consumer Advocate for badbusinessbureau.com

Hillyard's / Haider's Service (Auto Service Stations) 12/13/00

Consumer Advise for consumers in the future:

Vehicles break and vehicles need service. It's just a fact of life. Taking seven days to repair a vehicle is not out of the ordinary depending on what the problem is. Was there extensive repairs? Was there a parts supply problem? Did you have an appointment? There are many reasons why repairs can take 7 days of longer. Perhaps the mechanic quit? Perhaps a special tool was required? The list goes on and on.

You should have asked how long the repair would take when you brought your car in. Then again, this is only a guide. I remember a car in a shop for 4 days when they only brought it in to rotate the tires. The lug nuts were rusted on and they had to be cut off. The bill for rotating the tires came to over $400. In the middle of the bad weather season shops can quickly get overloaded with work.

The technicians are not magicians or prophets who can snap their fingers and fix your car. The problem must be diagnosed and then a method to repair the problem. Most shops nowadays work by appointment only and to squeeze someone in becomes very difficult. There is a technician shortage at present which means longer wait times for repairs. The bottom line, if you are unhappy with Hillyards, find another garage.
