Hinsley Law Firm What a completely unprofessional lawfirm! Houston, Texas

I had a huge debt with American Express and they sent  my debt over to a law firm.  That law firm in turn file a judgment against me.   However, I did not get served. 

While searching for a legal representation, I came upon www.consumersdefense.com which is the Hinsley Law Firm.  I called and spoke with someone over the phone.  Very polite and sincere.  She asked me to come in to meet with Mr. Hinsley.  I made my appointment for the following Monday (which was just 2 weeks ago).

When I came in to meet with Mr. Hinsley, I met with his paralegal, Betty Jennings, instead.  Mr. Hinsley was on his way back from a hearing in downtown.  Betty has a way about her that make you feel stupid for not coming in sooner.  I informed her I was working with a debt settlement company and they had settled 2 of my other debts for about 40% of the debt.  She said if a credit card company settled that with Mr. Hinsley they would just laugh. 

Because I was naive and scared at the time, she got me to sign a contrat with them and a deposit for a $500 retainer.  I never got a chance to meet with Mr. Hinsley that day, nor will I ever.

My settlement company called a few days ago and said the law firm that American Express hired is willing to settle for half of the debt.  I agreed to it and proceed to terminate my agreement with the Hinsley Law Firm. 

Oh, did their attitude change.  They spoke to me like they are bullies.  They left a voicemail making me seem really stupid and that this is the worse thing I can do.  I asked for the refund to my retainer since no actual work was ever done. 

Mr.Hinsley emailed me a letter saying that because I was such a demanding client and that I had called their office 6 times and had emailed Betty 5 times over the course of 3 weeks, I have used up all my $500 retainer and I now have a balance.

I called Betty and questioned about the service supposedly they performed on my behalf.  She CLAIMED that she had to take time out of her day (which she's supposed to) and that Mr. Hinsley also took time out of his day for me.  I told her I never met with Mr. Hinsley.  She claimed that the day I came in, he stopped by to say hi.  She also asked me if I thought those phone calls and emails were answered free of charge.  I said no, but 6 phone calls (which she only came on the phone once), 5 emails (which she replied twice), and a simple hi from Mr. Hinsley was not worth $500. 

She then told that she has other clients waiting for her and that I'm a very difficult client to represent because I'm so demanding. 

Needless to say, I didn't get my $500 back but luckily, they are not billilng me for the "balance" they said I owe.  That is the only thing they ever did for me in the 3 weeks I hired them. 

So, PLEASE, do not fall victim to this law firm.  Find a respectable law firm to help you.  I wish I found this website sooner.
