When you look up the phone number for HiringMAX.com the search results list the National Association of Automobile Sales Professionals in Fountain Valley. I wrote the report below before learning this but now it all makes sense. I wouldn't be surprise if HiringMax.com job fairs were nothing more than a recruitment front for auto dealerships. It would make the questions on the HiringMax.com forms make a lot more sense.

During visits to Tahoe, Reno and Las Vegas solicitors have approached me with offers for free dinners and show tickets. These promises are always made with the assurance that no purchase is necessary on my part. What is obfuscated is the fact that in order to collect on the free dinners and show tickets, I will have to sit through a 90 minute presentation during which someone will try to hard sell me into buying into a time share.

The experience I had with HiringMax.com on April 3, 2008 at the Embassy Suites in Inglewood, CA was WORSE than the time share pitch. While I'm in Vegas or Tahoe I'm already on vacation and my time is free. I had to take time off work to go to the HiringMax Job Fair at which my time was nearly completely wasted. HiringMax.com did not out and out LIE about the job fair but they sure did use obfuscation. Let me recount my experience.

It was recently revealed that my office will be shutting down as a result of a company acquisition. So I and four other co-workers got permission to take a longer lunch break, though we'd have to make that time up later, in order to go to the HiringMax job fair. One of the co-workers found information about the job fair on Monster.com. But NOT in Monster.com's regular Job Fair section. And that should have been my first clue right there. The Hiring Manager, Fred Omidvar, JobSpecialist@hiringmax.com , listed the job fair as a job listing on Monster.com. It the Job Description he wrote the following:

I am the Hiring Manager for HiringMAX.(At HiringMAX we hire for more than 600 positions for over 200 companies (many from the fortune 500) ranging from Outside Sales, Inside Sales, Executive positions, Customer Service, HR, Clerical, Training, Retail, Transportation, Government and more. Just as my first clue should have been the fact that Fred/HiringMax.com was misusing Monster.com by listing a job fair as a job listing, my second clue should have been the fact that on this listing the hiring companies were not named. So I went to the HiringMax.com website and the hiring companies were not named there either. My third clue was the fact that the HiringMax.com website emphasizes the fact that job seekers are not charged to come to job fairs and employers are not charged to come to job fairs.

At legitimate job fairs I've attended: A) Employers are charged a fee to set up a booth B) Employer names/Company names are listed on the website of the company hosting the job fair C) The company hosting the job fair encourages job seekers to come prepared by looking at the job descriptions in advance and using those descriptions to plot out exactly which Employers booths job seekers plan to visit while at the job fair (they call it doing your research and maximizing your time). The fact that employer information and job listing information is hidden by HiringMax.com should have told me something was up.

You see all those positions Fred lists? All those positions WERE NOT positions for which there were companies hiring at the job fair. Part of the reason was that there were only ten tables at the job fair and at three of those the companies hiring did not even show up.

I did not find this out until after I sat through a presentation that was over an hour long. It was called an orientation but it was nothing but a waste of time. Fred stated things that my group already knew about the differences in the way HR managers hire now as oppose to the way they hired ten years ago. I'd be surprised if there was anyone in the room who was not aware of the differences he mentioned. Fred talked about attitude and what a difference it makes when one is presenting oneself to a potential employer. Uhm, no duh. Fred kept emphasizing how HiringMax.com does not charge job seekers or employers. Well there has got to be a charge somewhere because HiringMax.com is not listing itself as a charity organization. Then I took a look at the paperwork job seekers were asked to fill out before the orientation. The questions included basic information but also these questions.

Sales Experience: Please circle number of years in Sales? There was not a request on the form for information on any other kinds of experience.

What is your ideal annual salary expectations: The grammatically correct question would have been What is your ideal annual salary expectation? The fact that the form wasn't proof checked did not speak well of HiringMax.com.

For the right company, would you start with commission Only? (the capital O was the form, not me). There were no other types of questions such as For the right company, would you consider relocating. The only question of this nature was the commission only question.

How important is company benefits (Insurance and Retirement)? The grammatically correct sentence would have been How important are company benefits?

Race? Any job related form I have filled out asking for my race classification came with disclaimer text that told me that this question was being asked for government compliance reasons and came with a choice that read something like Decline to state. This race question did neither.

I believe this form was nothing more than a lead generation form for HiringMax.com itself. They want to see if they can suck people into working commission only with no benefits for them in the job of fooling unwary job seekers into wasting their time (and money, but that comes later).

Fred went on to state that there were many, many more positions posted at HiringMax.com than jus the positions represented at the tables in the other room. He kept using the word tables because he'd be telling a lie if he said there were ten companies represented in the other room as every table was not occupied. He encouraged job seekers to follow the HiringMax.com process which is as follows:

Go to the website HiringMax.com
Register on the website.
Upload your resume.
Look for positions for which you'd like to apply.

Once you apply . . . .

A HiringMAXJob Specialist will forward your resume AFTER YOU APPLY for a position on HiringMax.com. (For your resume to be forwarded, you must apply for a position. A Job Specialist is NOT trained to contact employers on your behalf.)

This quote was under What does a Job Specialist (JS) Do?. Evidently a JSs job is to hit the FORWARD button in Outlook to send your resume to the HR department of the company that is actually hiring.

Fred told job seekers they didn't have to stop there. They could meet with a Senior Job Specialist (SJS). They could meet with one, for free, at a meeting in Costa Mesa at the University of Phoenix on Friday April 4, 2008. Under What does a Senior Job Specialist (SJS) Do? was this quote. . .

A Hiring MAX (notice that now it is two words when in the above quote it was one word. What HiringMax.com needs to do is hire a Marketing Specialist to proof read their collateral) Senior Job Specialist is experienced to assist you (experienced to assist you sounds like a sentence written by a call center employee in New Delhi) in finding a job and will start a dialogue on your behalf with employers. His experience will help you win interviews with prospective employers. A Senior SJS (before it was just Senior Job Specialist, a.k.a. SJS. Now it is Senior Senior Job Specialist) will: 1 - Help empower your resume (I didn't realize my resume felt helpless). 2 Coach you on interview skills. 3 Initiate a dialogue on your behalf with companies matching your profile.

The thing is, as Fred explains it, Senior Job Specialists don't just work with anybody. They only work with people whose resumes are written in a way that gets HR Managers to notice. There are five keys to getting a resume noticed by HR Managers. Only Fred did not tell during the orientation what those five keys are. That information is available to job seekers, FOR A FEE. I only know that information is available for a fee because in the other room I asked the gentleman standing at the HiringMax table if there was a cost for getting someone to help me make sure that my resume had the five keys.

At NO POINT DURING THE ORIENTATION did Fred mention that there were any fees whatsoever associated with any services HiringMax.com is offering. When I asked Fred if there was a fee associated with meeting with the SJS he told me no. But he failed to mention that if my resume did not have the five keys the SJS would charge me for the service of incorporating the five keys into my resume. The guy at the table stated that sometimes an SJS will look at a resume and it will indeed have the five keys and they will go ahead and work with that job seeker for no fee. I could not get him to tell me what percentage of job seekers who meet with an SJS end up having resumes that do not need the fee based service.

After all this the orientation still was not over. A speaker named Juan got up for what was suppose to be three minutes to talk about Springfield College, which has a satellite campus in Southern California. Juan was a terrible speaker. He speech was disjointed and full of digressions. He overused hand gestures. He did not articulate. He called a degree a piece of paper (isn't that exactly what representatives from academic institutions are NOT suppose to call a degree). There are reasonable and logical reasons for those transitioning in their career to consider continuing their education. Juan did not do a good job of explaining any of them. If he is representing Springfield College that institution either sucks or is being horribly underserved.

If you wish to take advantage of a HiringMax job fair here is what I would suggest. When you arrive, IGNORE the signs which clearly lead you to the registration table for the HiringMax job fair. Instead, follow the people who are professionally dressed and who are holding resumes. They are walking to the other room where the actual companies (however few of them there are) are set up at tables. Go directly into that room and check out which companies are there and the positions for which they are hiring. Do not go into that orientation room. What goes on in there is a sham.

FRED is full of it and thak goodness people are beginning to speak out against him. Fred continually finds DUMMIES to work for him at that suite that continue to change. The first suite was 206 and he moved to 205, in order to avoid civil lawsuits against him. When there is a civil suit against anyone, you must have te correct address and he avoids lawsuits that way. All his ideas only leads up to his continued hope and dreams of selling his company to a larger company. He continues to dream about his millions he would make if a larger company was to buy him out. He looks at the fade of FACEBOOK being brought, MYSPACE being brought, HOTJOBS and many other websites that have been purchased by billion dollar companies that knkow what success means. For all of those job seekers out there, HIRINGMAX will not and in the last two years have not had 20 companies in the same room at the same time at the Career Fairs. He continues to try very hard to produce companies, offering them free admittance to the FAIR. If you would like to know how he gets paid, it is not in placing applicants or charging applicants. He charges the companies, those who are DUMB enough to pay, to have a table (not a booth) at the Career Fair. Some pay and some don't pay. He barters like he is in a swap meet. That orientation is a continued verification that he is a good CON-MAN. He uses that orientation to try and control the amount of people in the crowded room of minimal EMPLOYERS. He is being paid by the companies that attend. And for that website with all those job listings, dont fall for that game either. He will leave a job posting up, even is the job is no longer open, even if the company is no longer with HIRINGMAX. He wants it to look as if it is pages and pages of jobs. He sends his "JOB SPECIALIST" to other organizations career fairs (MONSTER, JOBING.COM, CAREERBUILDER, ETC.), any companies career fairs, to collect cards from the companies that attend there and he steals or attempts to steal the business. FRED is living in a world that his EGO has outgrown his 5'2" stature or 5'3" whatever it is. He is a GOD in his own world and the first to think that everyone is caught up in his world and all that garbage that comes out of his mouth. He is a motivational speaker by his title only and has never had any formal training.

FRED IS A CAR SALESMAN AND SINCE THE AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY IS SLOWING DOWN TREMENDOUSLY, HE IS SCRATCHING ON THE WALL LIKE A CAT.

This Letter was e mailed to the originator of this report on 4/12/08 by Fred Omidvar.

Dear Adreana:

I am sorry to hear that your offices are in the process of closing.

I understand searching for a job takes time and effort and I like to thank you for taking from your valuable time to write this lengthy letter about HiringMAX.

Every day I meet job seekers who are eager, proactive and excited to job search and use our contacts to secure employment. We have helped find jobs for over 4000 job seekers.

We have received over 500 thank you e mails and letters from job seekers. I have attached some of the letters to this e mail.

Over the years, we have had the pleasure of helping job seekers such as Alfred Marches, age 73 who was jobless for 7 months until he met us. Within 3 weeks of meeting us he was employed by Sams club as a Marketing manager. Pamela, who is currently the director of recruitment for Trilogy financial and Saul who is the operations manager for ADT. These applicants did not pay Hiring max to secure employment and all attended the HiringMAX Career Fairs.

Our services have always been FREE and will continue to be FREE. You heard us right during the seminar. We do not charge the applicants nor the employers for the HIRING PROCESS. The hiring process is the part you missed. We are not a recruiting agency, and we have connections with over 200 employers.

Below are the facts about HiringMAX to answer some of your allegations:

AT NOT TIME YOU WERE APPROACHED TO BUY ANY PRODUCTS FROM US. Were you? Unlike a timeshare company, we did not invite you to a seminar to charge you for any services. Our presentation was not a PITCH. Is was to motivate the job seekers who are going through the job finding process. We did not at any time ask you for MONEY?

The purpose of the orientation is to inform, motivate and provide instructions. The instructions were to:
1- Uploaded your resume
2- applied for positions
3- Visited the University of phoenix to meet with a senior job specialist.

None of which you have done as of now. Would you have completed those steps, you would have positioned yourself to use HiringMAX contacts to secure employment, as hundreds do every month.

Over 300 positions and employers are listed on our site. Over 100 other companies not listed rely on HiringMAX to refer applicants to them directly. Would you have met with us, and given a Senior Job Specialist the opportunity to meet with you face to face, you would have given us an opportunity to refer you to companies such as Hilti with Store Management Positions, or Coca Cola with Territory Management Positions.

What was Up Adreana, is our Job Specialists helping applicants connect to companies not present at the Fair. We operate differently than the typical Job Fair company in that we connect job seekers to over 200 companies we represent through a Job Specialist. Legitimate Job Fairs invite you to a fair and hope you meet with a company that day, which is great. We add an additional step where we follow up with our Job Seekers for months after a job fair to help them with their job search. I do agree with you, in that it is all about research. Would you have conducted a little research about HiringMAX, you would have learned this important difference about us.


You allege: You see all those positions Fred lists? All those positions WERE NOT positions for which there were companies hiring at the job fair. Part of the reason was that there were only ten tables at the job fair and at three of those the companies hiring did not even show up. Not all companies we represent attend every Career Fair. Most do not attend and you meet them through a Job Specialist.

I did not find this out until after I sat through a presentation that was over an hour long. It was called an orientation but it was nothing but a waste of time. Fred stated things that my group already knew about the differences in the way HR managers hire now as oppose to the way they hired ten years ago. I'd be surprised if there was anyone in the room who was not aware of the differences he mentioned. Fred talked about attitude and what a difference it makes when one is presenting oneself to a potential employer. Uhm, no duh.
The same day you attended this Fair, a Job Seeker walked up after an orientation, held my hands in hers with tears in her eyes and thanked me for inspiring her. She told me her home was on the verge of foreclosing, and she was looking for a job for 9 months. She needed someone to talk to her to motivate her to continue pursuing interviews. You are correct. In our orientation we talk about attitude, motivation, and interview tips. All important reminders for job seekers during their search. I am sure you have had the experience, where you are aware of certain facts, however when you are reminded of them again, you are reinvigorate by being reminded of those same ideas.


You allege: Fred kept emphasizing how HiringMax.com does not charge job seekers or employers. Well there has got to be a charge somewhere because HiringMax.com is not listing itself as a charity organization. Then I took a look at the paperwork job seekers were asked to fill out before the orientation. The questions included basic information but also these questions. Sales Experience: Please circle number of years in Sales?
You are correct. We do not charge neither the job seeker, nor the employer. We get paid through companies attending our job fairs, or referring job seekers to them directly. We get paid a flat fee. WE DO NOT CHARGE A FEE AS A RECRUITING AGENCY DOES. This was all explained in the meeting you attended.

You state: There was not a request on the form for information on any other kinds of experience. What is your ideal annual salary expectations: The grammatically correct question would have been What is your ideal annual salary expectation? The fact that the form wasn't proof checked did not speak well of HiringMax.com. For the right company, would you start with commission Only? (the capital O was the form, not me). There were no other types of questions such as For the right company, would you consider relocating. The only question of this nature was the commission only question. How important is company benefits (Insurance and Retirement)? The grammatically correct sentence would have been How important are company benefits?
Race? Any job related form I have filled out asking for my race classification came with disclaimer text that told me that this question was being asked for government compliance reasons and came with a choice that read something like Decline to state. This race question did neither.

Thank you for taking the time to point out the errors on our documents. We will make the corrections.

You allege: I believe this form was nothing more than a lead generation form for HiringMax.com itself. They want to see if they can suck people into working commission only with no benefits for them in the job of fooling unwary job seekers into wasting their time (and money, but that comes later). 90% of the jobs we interview for are either salaried or paid hourly. We do not S--- people into working for anything. Additionally, the form is to track who showed and who did not. Period. We get over 500 leads a day by job seekers who e mail us their resume and rely on us to find jobs for them. We do not rely on job fairs to develop leads.

You allege: Fred went on to state that there were many, many more positions posted at HiringMax.com than jus the positions represented at the tables in the other room. He kept using the word tables because he'd be telling a lie if he said there were ten companies represented in the other room as every table was not occupied. He encouraged job seekers to follow the HiringMax.com process which is as follows:

Register on the website.
Upload your resume.
Look for positions for which you'd like to apply.

Once you apply . . . . A HiringMAX Job Specialist' will forward your resume AFTER YOU APPLY for a position on HiringMax.com. (For your resume to be forwarded, you must apply for a position. A Job Specialist is NOT trained to contact employers on your behalf.) This quote was under What does a Job Specialist (JS) Do?. Evidently a JS's job is to hit the FORWARD button in Outlook to send your resume to the HR department of the company that is actually hiring. Fred told job seekers they didn't have to stop there. They could meet with a Senior Job Specialist (SJS). They could meet with one, for free, at a meeting in Costa Mesa at the University of Phoenix on Friday April 4, 2008. Under What does a Senior Job Specialist (SJS) Do? was this quote. . .A Hiring MAX (notice that now it is two words when in the above quote it was one word. What HiringMax.com needs to do is hire a Marketing Specialist to proof read their collateral) Senior Job Specialist is experienced to assist you (experienced to assist you sounds like a sentence written by a call center employee in New Delhi) in finding a job and will start a dialogue on your behalf with employers. His experience will help you win interviews with prospective employers. A Senior SJS (before it was just Senior Job Specialist, a.k.a. SJS. Now it is Senior Senior Job Specialist) will: 1 - Help empower your resume (I didn't realize my resume felt helpless). 2 Coach you on interview skills. 3 Initiate a dialogue on your behalf with companies matching your profile. We help initiate a dialogue for job seekers with employers we represent. We have found employment for hundreds of job seekers through this process.


You stated: The thing is, as Fred explains it, Senior Job Specialists don't just work with anybody. They only work with people whose resumes are written in a way that gets HR Managers to notice. There are five keys to getting a resume noticed by HR Managers. Only Fred did not tell during the orientation what those five keys are. That information is available to job seekers, FOR A FEE. I only know that information is available for a fee because in the other room I asked the gentleman standing at the HiringMax table if there was a cost for getting someone to help me make sure that my resume had the five keys. We are happy to share with anyone who asks about the five points. I am surprised you did not ask me to find out what they were, since it sound like you were interested in knowing. The Fee you are referring to, is charged by a resume writing service we are working with, should you choose to hire them to help you with your resume.

At NO POINT DURING THE ORIENTATION did Fred mention that there were any fees whatsoever associated with any services HiringMax.com is offering.

You stated: When I asked Fred if there was a fee associated with meeting with the SJS he told me no. But he failed to mention that if my resume did not have the five keys the SJS would charge me for the service of incorporating the five keys into my resume. The Fee you are referring to is charged by a resume writing service we are working with, should you choose to hire them to help you with your resume.

The reason a Senior Job Specialsit will work with you AFTER your resume has been professionally formatted is due to the relationship we have with employer who have hired us. Our reputation with employers we refer to is solidified through our ability to review job seekers resumes and forward only those which match their specific requirements. A Senior Job Specialist will work with those job seekers whose resumes attract attention and contain the correct key words for the position. Otherwise, as a job seeker you can work through a job specialist and do not need the help of a SENIOR job specialist.

You stated: The guy at the table stated that sometimes an SJS will look at a resume and it will indeed have the five keys and they will go ahead and work with that job seeker for no fee. I could not get him to tell me what percentage of job seekers who meet with an SJS end up having resumes that do not need the fee based service. We do not hold percentages such as this. We talk to thousands of job seekers every month. It is not possible to know what percentage find jobs and which do not as job seekers do not all report back to us. Again, we do not charge a fee to track who found a job and who did not. Additionally, employees helping us at the job fair are customer service reps. They would not have that kind of information anyhow.
You stated: After all this the orientation still was not over. A speaker named Juan got up for what was suppose to be three minutes to talk about Springfield College, which has a satellite campus in Southern California. Juan was a terrible speaker. He speech was disjointed and full of digressions. He overused hand gestures. He did not articulate. He called a degree a piece of paper (isn't that exactly what representatives from academic institutions are NOT suppose to call a degree). There are reasonable and logical reasons for those transitioning in their career to consider continuing their education. Juan did not do a good job of explaining any of them. If he is representing Springfield College that institution either sucks or is being horribly underserved.

I agree with you Adreana. Although Juan was not necessarily the best speaker, he meant well. His objective was to communicate to Job Seekers the advantages of an education, although he may have not projected the message as effectively. That presentation was his first and only ever conducted at HiringMAX.

You stated: If you wish to take advantage of a HiringMax job fair here is what I would suggest. When you arrive, IGNORE the signs which clearly lead you to the registration table for the HiringMax job fair. Instead, follow the people who are professionally dressed and who are holding resumes. They are walking to the other room where the actual companies (however few of them there are) are set up at tables. Go directly into that room and check out which companies are there and the positions for which they are hiring. Do not go into that orientation room. What goes on in there is a sham. It is clear your participation was not fruitful.
